The war in the Milky Way galaxy is still in its infancy, but the strategy of the enemy is becoming clear...establish footholds no matter the cost, through which other races will then pour in and begin the galactic purge slugging match full force.
The Andromeda galaxy is one of the waypoints to get to the Asferja foothold in the Milky Way Rim. The other is the Jaegger invasion of the massive black holes in the galactic core, none of which it has completely claimed, but the road is open for yet a 4th invading race to arrive whenever they decide to show up as Mak'to'ran cannot completely shut them out.
Meanwhile Paul continues his campaign of terror against the Asferja Galactic Threads as a reluctant Vikarathe begins the construction of a new Neofan House out of the remnants of their race. Those remnants are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years old, and a resource not easily or quickly replaced, so recovering and rehabilitating them is a critical mission that leads the newly minted Neofan Reignor across multiple galaxies to sweep up the exiled scraps of his once formerly glorious race in an effort to build an army to fight the forces of the T'fen wherever they show up in the pair of besieged galaxies.
While this is happening, the Hadarak war is still raging, but with more systems cleared and converts gained as the Jedein numbers grow with each captured Hadarak Warden, freed of its genetic shackles, but the process is taking too long and the Hadarak zone will not be cleared until well after this Gauntlet War is over...if the Empire and its allies survive that long.
But one of the many strengths of Star Force is its fractured design. The Empire is broken down into Factions and Kingdoms, with each able to operate independently of the others. There is no capitol to take, no key system or two that will cause the others to fall when deprived of. Star Force was built during the V'kit'no'sat War, and as a result has always been growing into a form to fight an intergalactic invasion such as this.
The outcome is uncertain, but one thing that is painfully obvious to both sides is that this war will not be over quickly. A century would be overly optimistic. This is true galactic warfare, and the mismatch the invading forces hoped for has quickly vanished.
It's a slugfest now, and the true might of the elite civilizations from dozens of galaxies will be tested in a way never before seen as many of them are being forced to invade the Empire...else they become the target of another Gauntlet War for their disobedience.
Aer-ki Jyr is one of the top 20 science fiction authors on Amazon due to his extremely long and ongoing space opera epic STAR FORCE, one of the longest military science fiction series ever written.
Lots of great action. Fantastic movement of the plot from multiple perspectives. The worst parts are the continuous lifestyle grandstanding moments that consume pages of the same ideals from previous books. We know about the 10 layers already. We know about the ideals of Star Force and why they do what they do. If readers don't know by now, then they will learn when they read the previous book series. Honestly, I just skip those long drawn out parts and continue when the plot picks up again.
At times the philosophy is hard to understand and in some cases flawed. The basic premise of sustainability is plausible but never demonstrated in actuality. The concept of a material is almost communistic and hard for me to accept. The concept of light side vs dark side is reminiscent of what Jesus taught. Again, the good guy concept only works if no one is trying to kill you. Ill be interested when star force gains true universe dominance to see how that concept plays out.
The scope of the Star Force universe and the concept of the Gauntlet Wars creates is bursting with potential of where this story can go. Also always, there is a balance of perspectives from the overall theatre of war to what an individual is experiencing in their tiny part. The shift in release cadence for this series has resulted in much better editing with only a few minor issues in this one. The downside is we have to wait too long for the next instalment!
It's good don't get me wrong I wouldn't give it 4 stars if it weren't and definitely better than the previous 2 of the gauntlet wars but still not quite as good as the star force series which is amazing and a must read.
But good enough for me to want the next book it would be good to at least have an idea of when that will be
This has been an epic adventure and I look forward to each new release. I enjoy the references to 20th and 21st century shows and literature and the introduction of so many new races and creatures in our vast universe. What a great struggle between good and evil.
I've read all of the previous Star Force Books so like others I skip over parts where the author explains the "Star Force Ways" :-) The author has a great imagination when it comes to explaining so many aliens and the variety of ways they live and fight. Its hard to imagine a battle across multiple galaxies fought by billions, but the author makes it interesting :-)
This has been a captivating series. Ever since book 1 of the STAR FORCE ORIGIN SERIES if you are a fan of Soace Opera, along the lines of Honor Harrington, however ALOT more detailed, action paced and hundreds of more sub plots-then this series is for you.
Question
With the fall of house McTavish and House Atriark, WHERE are the Zak De Ron???
Glad to see more of Paul but I would have liked to followed one thread with a little more detail as it was done at the beginning of Star Force when you started the trailblazers.
It was hard to read all of the comments that were made on unrelated subjects which were thousands of years out of date. I hope any future works spend more time on the battles and a lot less on references to current fiction works.
I've lived reading the Star Force series for years now. My one and only complaint, and it's more of a preference, is the entire chapters he continually used for explosions random philosophical point. Kind of wish that was not there tbh. Otherwise another great read.
Lots of battles near the end. I found the philosophizing tedious and had to skip a good deal. Please keep the story going. I missed them a lot while you were gone.
I would like the plot and action to move forward more quickly. The many preceding books have introduced a lot of characters and it would be nice to stay in touch with more of them.
Good read but the action is a little slow coming. The background insight is thought provoking about good and evil. For people that have not read the first book I can see why the story had to think back. Can't wait for the next book.
To think a hunan could morph into what the archons have become is mind-blowing. And then there is Paul. Holy cow! So there are even stronger enemies to come? The battles keep getting bigger and better! Love this series!
This is not a short series. Even more than 100 books considering all the multiple series, it is still interesting. However, the HFY cheer is getting tiresome. Whoever has read this far is already sold on the idea. There is no need to repetitively replay that humans are the best thing the universe has seen yet. For like 20 pages PER book. We don't need any reminders. These are not new readers. We get it. Please tone it down. It has been getting so hard that I almost gave up on the series in this latest volume.
Keep it coming. I like that you expand the story while still tying up loose ends. I kind of wish there was more story line about the growing faction of lizards in Andromeda.
