Todd Dezago is an American comic book writer. He is best known for his collaborations with penciller Mike Wieringo on The Sensational Spider-Man (1996) and their creator-owned fantasy series Tellos, which premiered in 1999, as well as for co-creating Young Justice with artist Todd Nauck in the 1998 oneshot Young Justice: The Secret. His other Young Justice work includes the 1998 miniseries JLA: World Without Grown-ups. From 1999 to 2002 Dezago also wrote Impulse #50-89. In 2005 he co-created The Perhapanauts with artist Craig Rousseau.

This was an unsuccessful attempt by Marvel to repackage their comic book treasury for a younger audience. Shiny, semi-stiff covers, smaller format, and some editing were supposed to work. This edition doesn’t work well.

We get two stories about the early encounters with The Goblin sandwiched around two less-logical stories: the first is about Kraven the Hunter coming to the USA and the second is supposed to be the first encounter between Spidey and Daredevil.

The artwork is hit or miss, and the only continuity of the four short pieces is Aunt May telling Peter that he really should introduce himself to the nice new visitor to the neighborhood, Mary Jane Watson. On the plus side: it won’t take too much time to get through it; and, for me, it was a slight distraction as I continue to struggle with reviewing of Democracy in America.

Reprints Marvel Age: Spider-Man #13-16. Spider-Man battles the Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, the Circus of Crime, and meets Daredevil. The Marvel Age line never really went anywhere. The stories are meant to introduce younger readers to the Marvel Universe by recreating the early adventures of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and Hulk. The books are alright but are only for big fans or those who haven't read any of the early adventures.
