The Path Home - One 'n Done #6

Rate this book
A queer reimagining of the classic Persephone and Hades myth filled with magic and true love.

Bryony has just graduated college, and instead of moving to Brooklyn to start her summer fellowship, she has found herself drawn back to her rural hometown in the Adirondacks. A town where she left behind her feelings for her childhood love, Iris. Upon her return home, Bryony notices that the nature surrounding her hometown is dying and no one will talk about Iris.

A.J. Pellegrino has recontextualized a classic story of nature's duality to create a novella that subverts traditional gender norms and creates a beautifully haunting tale perfect for fans of Alix E. Harrow and Lee Mandelo.

This was a really good quick read. I love the authors description and I’m a big nature nut so I retelling of Hades and Persephone is going to be a hit.

I just wish there had been MORE which is a dumb complaint for a one and done but there it is. I wanted more lore, I wanted more of the main character’s feeling and life. I wanted more things answered. But maybe that’s a good thing, wanting more of a book. Anyway, definitely recommend!

This checked all of my cottage-core fantasy boxes, the perfect book to pick up on the cusp of the seasons changing. The tone and vivid imagery really make this a captivating page turner and the length is so heart breakingly perfect, it makes you feel the whirlwind of this brief yet lifelong romance and every page closer to the end leaves you wanting more.
