Nondual Love: Awakening to the Loving Nature of Reality

Rate this book
From beloved author and teacher A. H. Almaas, an exploration of love beyond the boundaries of the individual self, revealing that nondual love is the nature of everything, including ourselves.

Love is a transformative aspect of the spiritual path—and, in fact, it is our very nature. A. H. Almaas takes us on a journey beyond a narrow, individual understanding of love to an exploration of what he calls the boundless dimension of Divine Love. This is not the kind of love that we feel toward somebody else; it is nondual, a love without boundaries. Or put another way, it is universal true nature experienced as love.

By shifting our focus beyond our individual human experience to the experience of the whole of existence, we are able to see the true richness of the universe. All of reality takes on a quality of inner light, of softness and ease, of sweetness and holding. When we are open to the dimension of nondual love, we can relax and trust our inner ground that is also the ground of everything: our true nature, free from limitations—a sense of complete release, freedom, and delight, that is free of conflict, fear, insecurity, and worry. Almaas discusses the obstacles that make it difficult to awaken to true nature in this form, such as our belief in a separate self and our past conditioning. Each chapter includes an inquiry or practice, such as explorations of attachments and worldly desires as well as inquiries into union, surrender, and grace.

A way to look at the spiritual path free of religious bias while not being anti-religious. In fact, much, if not all, of what he speaks is related to differing religions, mostly in the West in the more contemplative, or mystical, branches of them.

I appreciate how the author integrates object relations with the path. Also, I realize it is more simple than he says, for he cannot say it - who can? Had not read Almaas in many years, and glad I came upon this gem - as he would say, it was by grace... and so is all.

The reader in the audio version was excellent. However, due to the nature of this work, I recommend persons read the book, so they can move at their own pace, inconsistently as needed to digest the content. This book calls for "chewing the cud" to extract the nectar.

So I just found that it’s not too dissimilar to religion. I guess I expected the spiritual take to be more different. I’m not overly familiar so I can’t say that their take is different than others or not. I found a lot of hypocrisy in the fact that they were saying it’s not a god but then that it is. It’s not religion but then there’s grace, guiding light and love and if you don’t believe in it and follow it then not much is going to happen for you. That we are all part of the same which is the part I could relate to but then saying that trees are different and that humans are still somehow on a pedestal that’s more light. Saying that it’s all the truth and that physical reality is true but then is not true. So I really can’t say how this compares to other spiritual teachings and maybe it’s the same but to me it was just a lot of absolutes with no proof and that it’s believing in some sort of higher power that is all of us but also is not. As a believer in the reality of science energy isn’t created nor destroyed and we are all made of stardust. We are all matter and gas and made of the same thing so I do feel highly connected to not only everyone but everything and am made of the same thing as my planet, my star, my universe. So in this way I thought I’d relate to the spiritual teachings but there’s too much religion and too much else here that I can’t relate to or believe in. There’s also no proof at all that everything is love. That’s just a religion talking in my opinion.

Nondual Love is fantastic!!! I absolutely love this book! It holds so many powerful lessons. This is a perspective changing book. I have always felt the whisperings that love is deeper than individual love. This book helped unlock that love for the universe, community, and whole self full force. I love the unique format of this book and the exercises inside it. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to tap into the nature of humanity and go on a journey of growth.

A great book for seekers or for those on a spiritual path. There's a lot of truth and wisdom here. I did not find the exercises helpful, which is too bad since that may be where the most useful lessons might be. Nonetheless, the rest of it contains some golden nuggets. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the free ARC for review!!

Most helpful book I read this year, a deep dive from Almaas into the intersection of love and the boundless dimensions of true nature. His sharing of the experience of "basic trust" that launched his teaching was very reassuring during a challenging time. And his discussion of where the "personal God" and "nonduality" intersect was also valuable to me.
