My Words Consume Me -- An Anthology of Youth Speaks Poets

Rate this book
Youth Speaks is a Bay Area nonprofit, with satellite workshops around the country, providing a safe space for high school students to put their thoughts and emotions down on paper and on the stage. This book captures a few of their brave and talented students as they express themselves in spoken word poetry  both in print and on CD. There is some inspirational work here. All proceeds from this book will go to the programs of Youth Speaks.

Wonderful poetry - not because it is written by youth, but because it is well-written and evocative. These individuals have found, or are finding, their voices and I hope some of them went on to have more of their works published.

At times, the concept is better than what is inside, but the notion of giving youth (who are traditionally given short shrift) an outlet for creative expression is excellent.
