To her surprise, Stacy Cauthen, an accountant from Atlanta wins a contest, she didn't even enter, to spend a romantic weekend in the Colorado mountains with Slade Collins, the movie star. What happens when they get to the chalet is both funny and romantic. What will they do when a blizzard hits and the power goes out forcing them to sleep in front of the fire together? Will love find its way in or will they say goodbye on Monday?

A holiday themed romance, The Winner is Love is another great book from author Stephanie Hurt. Set mainly in the snowy mountains of Colorado the story concerns a competition winner and a film star. Stuck without electricity away from any neighbours and without a phone signal they must make do as best they can. The easy friendship turns to a romance in it's early stages when the weekend comes to an end. Determined to meet again they plan to get together for Christmas. I was all set for a great ending when the book ended on a cliff hanger and the story must pan out in the second in the series coming soon.
This book was good. I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. This is a girl's fantasy, winning a trip to a beautiful snow covered chalet with a sexy actor. Makes me dream...
The Winner Is Love sounds like a charming romantic escape filled with unexpected surprises, humor, and heartwarming chemistry. Stacy and Slade’s unusual meeting sets the stage for an entertaining love story, while the blizzard and cozy chalet setting add plenty of romantic tension. I like the contrast between an ordinary accountant’s life and the glamorous world of a movie star, which makes their connection especially intriguing. It looks like a delightful read for anyone who enjoys sweet romance, unexpected love, and the possibility of a happy ending.
I had to double-check to see what age the H/h are supposed to be. He's a 40-year old Hollywood heartthrob, she's a 32-year old accountant. Based on their conversations and emotions, I'd have guessed they were about fourteen. Based on the fact that they fall asleep all the time, I'd have guessed they were in their 80s or so. Sleeping seems to be Ms. Hurt's only vehicle for showing the passing of time. I was beginning to think they were suffering the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning from the faulty furnace.
The story's premise is great. Unfortunately, the delivery falls far short. Stilted dialogue, head hopping (often within the same paragraph), juvenile descriptions of emotion, and a general lack of depth make for a disappointing story. Lots of telling, telling, telling. He did this. He did that. He went here. He went there. In one paragraph, I counted four sentences that began with the word he.
On top of that, the basic editing is so poor it's terribly distracting. The author doesn't seem to know the difference between bath and bathe. The sad thing is, her editor doesn't, either. Misused, misplaced, and misspelled words abound. Having a relative as an editor is seldom a good idea.
I hate to be discouraging, but I won't be reading any more of this author's work.
I like books with an ending. The characters were likeable. I'm sorry but this book was full of errors and head hopping making it a difficult read. The writer would greatly benefit from workshops to improve her writing. An editor would catch these mistakes.
