The Patterson Puppies and the Midnight Monster Party
Petra is afraid of the monster that comes out in the dark. Luckily her very supportive — and very spirited — siblings find a way to turn fear into fun!
Every night, in the middle of the night, Petra wakes up. She’s afraid of the dark. She’s afraid of the noises. But most of all, she afraid of the monster. Her brothers and sister always sleep all night long, and Mama and Papa tell Petra she’ll be just fine. But Petra is still scared, so Andy, Penelope, and Zack decide to help her out. Will a T. rex scare the monster away? A magic wand? Sixteen favorite stuffed animals? What could possibly placate a hungry monster in the middle of the night?

Andy, Petra, Penelope, and Zack bakes some cookies, and leave them out as an offering to the monster who has been keeping Petra awake at night. During the night they all went in search of the monster, and soon soon made an important discovery.

Silly, cute, and wacky little story of a passel of puppies who encounter a monster in their house...or is it just their imagination?

This book was cute. It reminded me of the days when I too built a protective wall of stuffed animals, to protect me from my childhood fear of the dark and what might be lurking in it.

The Patterson Puppies know a monster when they hear one. When their youngest sister Petra can't sleep because of the monster she knows is out there, her siblings set out on a quest to get rid of the monster. A fun story that helps dispel the fear of monsters in the dark, this adventure book engages children and keeps them guessing right up until the end!
This book is great to use with children to talk about things that scare them. An activity that could be done with this book would be for children to draw pictures of what sort of things scare them and then we could talk abut ways to make them look silly or friendly.

This is a great book to teach about problem solving, the sibling try to offer solutions to help their sister feel safe. They also try cookies to help keep the monsters at bay. You can also introduce division. The monster has sixteen stuffed animals with four in each arm. How many arms does he have? This is also great for students who are trying to overcome their fears.

Petra is...well...petrified by the thought of monsters. While her brothers and sister sleep, she hears noises and insists that there is a monster. Nobody believes her until...! This is a good lesson on acceptance and being empathetic to others.
