She is recognized for bringing Indian cuisine to the western hemisphere with her debut cookbook, An Invitation to Indian Cooking, which was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Cookbook Hall of Fame in 2006.

The bright illustrations of this book are inviting. Markets around the world are detailed. The author describes which foods and items are sold at each market. Little details of each culture are explained. This is a fascinating look at how markets are similar and different all around the world. Markets explored are from Hong Kong, Egypt, Senegal, India, Italy, and Mexico. Recipes are included.
