By drawing on some of the greatest lives of faith in the Bible, the founder and pastor of Reality demonstrates that by having faith in God at pivotal moments in our lives, we will make good decisions and lead a life pleasing to God.
Fantastic walk through the characters in the Hebrews 11 hall of faith. I heard Pastor Britt teach through this passage a number of years ago and it was great to pick up the book and be reminded of the great encouragement we see in a big God that does extraordinary things not through those who are extraordinary, but through those with extraordinary faith. We serve a merciful God!
I'll be truthful: I read a little over half and then put it down. It's definitely an encouraging book, don't get me wrong--I just wish I had leafed through it at least prior to purchasing it. Mainly because I already have Britt Merrick's podcast on his "Hall of Faith" series on my iPhone and have listened to the entire series already (and have listened to certain ones several times). I LOVED the sermon series! I can't tell you how encouraged ad challenge I was by them! However, reading this book made me feel like i was basically reading the transcript of his sermons (right down to the personal side notes and stories). And Britt Merrick is an INCREDIBLE pastor and speaker. I don't even attend Reality, but I've been listening to his sermons on CDs for about ten years now--and it's way better than reading the transcripts. :)
I'd still definitely recommend this book though if you haven't heard the sermon series. :) But at least read the first chapter of this book--about Daisy Love. :)
Not that deep, but nevertheless the testimonies (especially the author's in the first chapter) are what make the book worth reading. If you don't want to read the whole book, just read the first chapter, "When My Heart is Overwhelmed". :) It tells of how the Lord comforted the author through His word in a time of great trial.
An old book that I finally picked up and read. Britt Merrick is the lead pastor at Reality Church Carpinteria. He writes on those who are in the "Hall of Faith." Really just highlighting certain men and women in the bible who had faith during trying times and how that looked for them. A reminder of how God expects our faith to be in Him.
"The outcome may be unknown and the obstacles large, but we trust God's ways and His methods and do what is good and right. That's the life of faith."
Britt has been one of my favorite pastors for a long time, and ultimately led me to some of my favorite verses in scripture. As someone that’s dealt with big pain, depression, and anxiety he has a way of pointing you back to God and others God has worked through in a deeply convicting and honest way.
This book walks through the hall of faith, and the Bible stories attached to them. I don’t believe in perfect theology from anyone, but he gets pretty close. I love when he is relatable, and relates to pain, yet always tells the hard truth of the gospel with it.
Great book on faith. Using Hebrews 11 as the foundation, Abel, Noah, etc. each with different aspect of faith they shown in their lives. Good book to understand faith and to grow it.
This book looks one by one at the ordinary and yet extraordinary people mentioned in the great Hall of Faith chapter in Hebrews (ch. 11) to unpack why God included them as examples of faith for us. Each chapter is rich with revelation and application (so much so that this book can be exhausting at times, though this may partly be due to a somewhat repetitive writing style), and the focus is consistently God-centered and God-glorifying. By the end of the book, I truly did feel inspired by how BIG my God is!
This book walks through the "Hall of Faith" found Hebrews 11. It is a very simple book with simple conclusions. He has some fun with some titles of chapters, but gets to the point.
I enjoyed reading it even if it was very simple and surface level.
Good basic OT character study. While this contained a lot of worthwhile content, I came away thinking it would work better as a sermon series than a book.
