About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

அட்டகாசமான புத்தகம். சுஜாதா அவர்கள் மிகவும் எளிமையானை நடையில் அனைவருக்கும்
புரிந்துக்கொள்ளும்படி அமைத்திருப்பது இதைப் படிக்க தூண்டுகிறது.
ரோஜா, பாய்ஸ், முதல்வன், கன்னத்தில் முத்தமிட்டால் போன்ற படங்களின் காட்சிகளை உதாரணமாக வைத்து காட்சியமைப்பு(scene making), கதாப்பாத்திரம்(characters), கதாப்பாத்திரத்தின் செயல்கள் (Action), திரைக்கதை அமைப்பு(Screenplay making), வசனம்(dialogues) என்று எக்கச்சக்கம்!!

I hold this book for almost more than two years on my bookshelf, because I want to read any technical book related to screenplay only after I wrote a rough draft of mine first. So after that, I started to read this but at last, there is no new learning, this is more content about the author's Tamil cinema experience as a screenplay writer (some incidents are interesting) and some commentary on Tamil cinema. But in the technical aspect, it only takes the tip of the iceberg, it only contains the basics of it like what is a Scene, Sequence, and structure. It's on very a basic level. And I am also aware that it is written twenty years back nowadays the film narrative is completely changed in our Tamil cinema also, so it does not even cover how to write for a Tamil film it more sticks to the classical Hollywood's style from Syd Field Zone. And now all the basic things about Screenplay are known by everyone even the audience, it is all available on the internet or simply in a youtube video essay, if anyone is willing to read this book I would say first write your own, then see the basic things on the internet this book won't help for that much in a technical aspect. Or a general audience wants to know about Screenplay they would read it for a time, even I say they would choose the youtube video essay to know about the basics of Screenplay.
