This is a 825 page commentary written in 1965 with the 10th printing in 1975. Bruce R. McConkie is so knowledgeable in the doctrines of the Gospel. It takes one parable or a few verses from all four of the Gospels, compares them then explains who Christ was talking to and what is meant by what was said. It made things so much more clear to me. It was so educational and I loved reading some of it every day and having understanding.
Now I'll start Vol. II which is the Apostles teachings after Christ left.

I really enjoyed this a lot. Yes, there are some things I don't agree with and other things that definitely contradict the current doctrine of the church (e.g., the point of the parable of the pharisee and the publican is NOT that we should have the works of the pharisee and the humility of the publican), but Elder McConkie acknowledges that his book is not an official publication of the Church and his personal interpretation or commentary. And besides those few instances where Elder McConkie makes, what I believe, are mistakes, this book is a powerful and pure, yet very thorough, testimony of the perfect life and divine mission of our Lord and Savior. Elder McConkie's language in the book was simple and effective, not excessively or needlessly ornate. His sentences were clear and direct. His witness of Christ came through loud and clear. I'm looking forward to reading the two remaining volumes of this series.

Finished August 2011. Reading cover to cover. What a fantastic book as we have read the New Testament the last months in Sunday shcool. Gives such a more complete deep understanding of the gospel truths that the New Testament scriptures try to teach us. Read parts of the book many times but first time cover to cover. It was great. Thanks to such great Apostles as Bruce R, McConkie for his many great works and the spirit that teaches us all.

Besides Jesus the Christ and the New Testament itself, this is the most powerful book ever written about the life, mission, and teachings of the Savior. It's also the most detailed commentary written on the doctrines taught in the New Testament. In this volume, McConkie goes through the Gospels scripture by scripture, providing insightful, informed, and inspired commentary after each scripture passage. Worth reading cover to cover--again and again.

Will finish this week. Read it in college and now on my second time through. It's been fun to see my thoughts back then. I found a lot of insight this time around and enjoyed it muchly. Am going to continue with volume II. Could write all my notes, but it would take hours, will have to think about it.

A must read for any serious new testament student, I found it really helpful while reading along with Jesus the Christ by James Talmage as it clarifies some passages Talmage mentions briefly and also quotes from the JST, something Talmage misses and greatly expands your understanding of eternal truths.

I consistancy use this volume as I teach the Gospel Doctrine Sunday lessons to the Young Single Adults in my ward. It is extremely helpful. I like how Bruce R. McConkie puts puts the same scripture as written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John side by side so they can be compared readily.
