Bizarrely, this is almost exactly the same book as The Printmaking Handbook, from a different publisher and author. The photos and illustrations are 90% identical, and the form (brief overviews of each method with techniques used and example projects. I’m glad I borrowed these from the library. Apart from that, good enough if you want an outline of techniques. I didn’t find it particularly inspirational.

Three stars because this is yet another repackaging of this book. In this version, the original text and demonstration photos of different types of printmaking (all very good and useful) are accompanied by an updated section of artworks, which includes many fine examples and short notes about process.

So if you haven’t previously read this book in one of its other forms, it’s a jolly good introduction to printmaking and provides thumbnail overviews and examples of many printmaking methods. Encyclopedia is perhaps appropriate if you consider that encyclopedias never offered particularly in depth information on any specific entry.

A great resource for the art teacher, or anyone interested in printmaking. I LOVE printmaking, but I never make the time for it. I am thankful to the teachers who introduced me to this. So, I would also like to pass this on to my students if I can. It talks about all types of printmaking, from monoprints to woodcuts, dry point to lithographs and all in between. I do wish that they covered chine-colle... because this is the type of printmaking that calls to me... printing on top of colorful paper!

Toward the end of the book, they cover themes, which was great to see. How can you use printmaking to show mood, line, clour, etc. Loved it.
