Some insights here but unevenly written and seemingly shoved together from a collection of essays. Was this book a contractural obligation? Makes you dearly miss the writing of Hugh Mackay. Lots of typographical errors, too, which are very distracting. The book seems to say the same thing a number of different times. There is also a most annoying mistake where Bernard Salt perpetuates the idea that Donald Horne was talking about Australia being a lucky country when in fact he was being ironic. Salt obviously has never read Horne's work.
