"Till those dear books infus’d their soft ingredients, Asham’d and fearful, I was all Obedience." This is much more enjoyable than I expected! I read the script while watching a video performance on YT so old jargons are comprehensible and the lines become much more entertaining to witness. The plot is quite simple but strikingly sentimental. I love the central message of how novels are essential in shaping and cultivating a person's identity and decisions in life.
Really interesting to read alongside the audio of a performance, and an intriguing story and a great insight into things such as life in the 1700s and attitudes towards certain cultural elements at the time such as literature, as well as the particular expectations of women in this society.
