Small Group Leaders' Handbook: Developing Transformational Communities

Rate this book
What do we mean when we talk about small groups? And more importantly: what do we expect to happen when people gather in this way? The small group that wrote this book--made up of current and former campus ministry professionals with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship--sees a small group as: a community that studies the Bible, prays and participates in God's mission together for the purposes of God's transforming work. Small groups are about transformation, and in this book transformation is given flesh and blood in the faces and names of the people you lead.

This book covers the major topics a potential Small Group Leader should think about. It is very heavy on stories—sometimes they help the point and others not so much. It is okay on practice. Some points are common sense but helpful to see spelled out. It is pretty light on theology of community. Myron’s chapters on the Inductive Method and evangelism were the most helpful in my opinion.

Such a great guide for a first-time small group leader! I found this both enlightening and convicting. Highly recommend!

I think the information in this book is great for those wanting to become small group leaders. But I highly disagree with the last chapter that states anyone can be a leader. James 3:1 says "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
