A solid but not spectacular overview of Southwestern Cinema. The book offers a state-by-state breakdown of films shot in the southwest; it makes for a compelling viewers's guide and should lead to some notable discoveries via Netflix. I only wish the analysis has been illuminating about the films themselves and/or the regions' history. Too often the book served up biographical info, with little context. Still, this is a book chock full of love for the western genre-and it comes with many gorgeous stills.

So, the problem with this book is there are enough stupid factual errors about the movies, their awards, and to some extent, the plots, that you have to be skeptical of all the facts in the book. If not for that, it would have been a much better read.

Nice appreciation of the films (of every genre -- not just Westerns) that have been filmed in the American Southwest, pretty much since the beginning of movies in the 1890s through the 2010s.

Lots of little editing errors, but the photos selection is good and the coverage is pretty broad.

Reading this inspired me to contact the Yuma Film Commission (yes, there is such a thing) and see if I can do anything for them on a voluntary basis. Haven't heard back from them yet, but it's only been a couple of days....
