Every single chapter in this book could’ve easily been half its length with all the unnecessary details that related to NOTHING. The author spent more time talking about these individuals’ childhoods than their actual contributions to society. All the tangents distracted from the main points of the chapters. For one chapter, the author started by ranting about how teenagers spend too much time on their phones. WHY??? It related to nothing!! I have never found history textbooks to be boring; I actually enjoy them, but this book put me to sleep every. single. time. This was definitely not worth the money I spent on it.

I took a class from Livesay at Texas A&M, and of course he assigned his own book as required course reading. There are some interesting things, he did a wonderful job of showing the reader how these innovations shaped our lives today. As a professor he was absolutely insane, but the man has a talent for writing, even though I found this book dry and boring in parts.
