In poetry printed on richly colored, variously shaped and layered pages reminiscent of a quilt pattern, a Southern quilter looks backward, bittersweetly, on her life and past loves.
Love this book, the patchwork quilt evolves as you read the prose-poem. It's a work of visual art, and the story it tells will haunt you long after you think you've forgotten it.
The beautiful way the pages unfold was an introduction to all the possibilities of artist books. So glad it found it's way to me.
This is a one-poem book based on quilt forms. Each page is differently colored and shaped, with one small line of the poem running along an edge, like stitching. As you turn the pages, they build into a rough quilt shape, and the poem forms itself in a geometric rhythm. Self-referentially, it's about Aunt Sally, whose bitterness is stitched into her quilts. Super neat.
