Haunted by fears of the future and nightmares of his past, human-Archangel hybrid Imorean Frayneson starts to realize how far from his own humanity and how deep into the world of angels and demons he has truly drifted.
The final conflict between Imorean and the demon Vortigern looms on the horizon, and Imorean finds himself still grappling with powers he can barely control and a world he feels he hardly understands.
All he knows is he is willing to do anything to keep his remaining family safe, even if it might cost him everything.
Harriet Carlton emigrated with her family to eastern North Carolina from Norfolk, England at the age of 4. Harriet has written from the age of 16, and by the age of 19, she had finished Angels Rising, the first of a four book series. At age 21, the Angels Rising series was published by Ashton Publishing Group. She is currently a junior at East Carolina University, and is a triple major of English, Great Books, and Foreign Language - German. She is also the German Club President at ECU, and a member of their equestrian team. Harriet is the owner of a rescue horse named Gallchobhar, and five rescue dogs.
This is the 4th and last book of a YA fantasy book series of four books. I have been reading them all in a row as an all-in-one e-book edition (1749 pages). The following is my review for the series as a whole.
The series includes the following books in ascending order:
Angels Rising
Angels Soaring
Angels Defying
Angels Falling
This is a YA fantasy book series with an interesting and quite unique plot for a change which thankfully does not spin around romances. Especially is there no superficial insta-love trope with super beautiful and stunning characters pining for each other which really is a relief and a great plus for the series.
Instead the book is about a group of friends who meet in college in a foreign country far away from home who have to deal with secrets, betrayal, fears, disappointments, defeats and losses while having their world turned upside down by those people they thought they could have trusted the most. And it is about friendship, respect, learning to work together and to support each other in grave circumstances in order to overcome the obstacles thrown into their way. No one really stands out as a superhero at the beginning, although the focus is on the main character who develops more unique traits than the others of the group do during the course of the story. Anyway, everyone in the group has their own strengths, proficiencies and flaws which can support or fail the group and their tasks as a whole.
Also the end is not all roses and sunshine but carries the consequences of events and decisions made during the journey and each and every one in the group has to come to terms with it. But that does not mean it is a bad ending, just a more realistic one, like in real life, nothing is always as one wants it to be, there are conditions and circumstances one just cannot influence and must accept one way or the other. I find these messages very fitting for a YA book series.
The books are written from a 3rd person perspective of the main character Imorean. The writing style and plot is interesting enough to get the reader involved in the world and immersed in the story, wanting to read on to know what happens next. At times I find the language a bit unnerving since the author speaks way too often of the “white-haired teenager” or “brown eyes are looking on…” when she means the main protagonist. This is even more disturbing especially when there's no one else around but him for some pages. But that is no hindrance for reading on.
The first book is the weakest in my opinion as it takes a while for the reader to get an idea of what's going on but it is not boring, just a bit slow. The next two books are really taking off with the story and events. The fourth book in my opinion was not really necessary. The whole story could have been told and satisfyingly concluded within 3 books. The 4th book is dragging on and on with the same story and often repeats the same battles and fights known from the previous books and with so much of the same details that for me I found myself getting a bit impatient. The fourth book also introduced new quests to solve the old problem, which were absolutely not necessary and seemed only dragging on the story in order to fill the 4th book.
After reading the first 3 books I was inclined to give 4 stars for the whole series, but after reading book four and considering the at times awkward language I am ending up giving 3 stars for the series as a whole. But still I think this a very enjoyable book series for teenagers.
A well written tale about a world of angels. It will speak most deeply to those torn or separated from family and loved ones. There is a strong bond of brotherly love among the immortal men known as archangels. Brothers whose task it is lead into battle the heavenly host against evil demons bent on the inhalation of all humanity. A roller coaster through all realms of human emotion. The main character clings to his sense of right and wrong from one struggle to the next in his fear of losing himself to duty as the member of an angel army. The lowest point of separation and evil torment is hard. But, there are light moments in the description of what it could be like to live in an unseen angelic world with the banter of friends. A story to warm the heart and soul well worth the time to explore for teens and up.
More, much more than a page turner. This series will leave you emotionally bereft and elated at the same time. If it was a series on TV I probably wouldn't give it the time of day. The written word that fires the imagination has no budget like a limited screen production would. But Harriet Carlton brings a depth of feeling and intimacy to her charaters that will leave you breathless with anticipation. A well crafted story in an international arena. It carries you along with it. You'll know that it's a book and you can put it down and pick it up at any time..... but you won't want to
This was an amazing end to a great series. It's hard to review without giving spoilers. It's not a Christian book but could be considered one. It's clean reading. I forget that Imorean is a teenager. Michael was a pain in the butt a lot of the time but I sort of understand why now. There's lots of twists. We finally get some answers. Imorean has fire ability. There's a story to that. I found myself in tears at the end but it all works out and it was a happy ending.
The narration was OK. Wish the female voices were better. And wish the narrator would learn to pronounce Raleigh.
I take it all back! I hated waiting for each new book, but it was so worth it! Not to spoil the ending, but I cried and smiled! I couldn't see how this could possibly end in the few chapters left, but it was perfect! Loved it! Don't miss this one! One of the best series I have read in the past couple of years! If you love fantasy, start reading today!
There were so many twists and turns in this final book. I was never quite sure where it was taking me. There were times I couldn’t read fast enough because I urgently needed to know what was going to happen next! The tension added to the satisfaction of the end of this series. I loved it!
A tale is so incredible. you're sucked in and caught into the book.
This story blew my mind. The author takes you to the wildest places on the planet and then some. A story of life changes, loss, struggle, intrigue, death, rebirth, and restorative excursions. I was hooked early on in the series first book. I laughed and cried. An incredible tale.
I really wondered if this series could wrap up the loose ends and come to an acceptable conclusion. Well she did it a job excellently done. I will miss this series very much as the characters and the people astounded me. Well done!!!
The final book in the series, the most amazing one of the set. Once you embark upon the adventures of Imorean and his friends you will not be able to get to the end fast enough. Unbelievably believable. ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
You must read the first 3 books before this one. This storyline is very unique an interesting to follow. I hope you enjoy these 4 books as much as I did and will check out more books from this author
The perfect ending to this beautiful story. I am so greatful for having given it the chance. Our group has finally found an end that is so befitting them.
