SCOTTSDALE SOCIETY OF WOMEN WRITERS
WELCOMES: Jackie Dishner, author, blogger and social media expert

INTRODUCTION: In October 2009, Countryman Press, a subsidiary of W.W. Norton, released Phoenix-based author and travel writer Jackie Dishner's first book, Backroads & Byways of Arizona. In January, her publisher sent her a royalty statement. She'd already sold more than 1,000 books! And the numbers were growing steadily. When you realize the average book sells only 250 copies per year--and only 3,000 in its lifetime--her numbers are very good. Jackie attributes much of her success to the social media networks--Posting. Tweeting. Updating her status regularly. Starting with her first blog in 2007, she's now doing it all and has learned what really works best. To help you learn how you can launch your next book and gain this same kind of success, she shares her best tips with you tonight.

BIO: Jackie Dishner, writer, speaker and mountain bike rider, is the former editor of a McGraw-Hill construction magazine in Phoenix. She moved nationally into writing about Arizona travel in 1999. That’s when her story featuring a former Hollywood stunt man from Yuma appeared in Arizona Highways. You can find more of her work there, as well as in several AAA magazines, This Old House, Fast Company, The Writer, various trade and custom publications. Writing professionally for more than 20 years, she also covers design, green living, and the healing arts. Backroads & Byways of Arizona, released last October, is her first book. Backroads is available at our home page or from any of your favorite bookstores and online outlets, including The Countryman Press, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and Borders.

Good book!

However, there is only 1 map and it is at the very beginning of the book. The places talked about throughout the book are not all on the map. The author / reader would have been better served if a map would have been included before each section detailing how to get there, what to see, etc.
