The book reads like stereo instructions. Loaded with speculative assertions that seem to be based on the work of historians with axes to grind. However, this volume does a magnificent job tracing the whole German liberal Higher Criticism movement back to the work of the English Deists. I'm sure a lot of people have suspected the connection, but Reventlow provides a mountain of evidence proving the connection. The book was worth the read for that section alone.
