John is a father, but that wasn’t his day job before the Apocalypse.
Seven months after the events in 900 Miles, we pick up with John and Kyle who are bunkered down with their newfound community back at Avalon.
Unexpectedly thrust outside the protection of Avalon’s walls, they’re forced back into the world of the dead on a scavenging run that should be routine. However, they quickly learn that there are forces at play making this journey anything but…
In a race against time to get home, they quickly find themselves being hunted by a madman intent on stripping away the tiny slice of life they’ve fought so hard to hold together – ultimately forcing John to learn just how far he’s willing to adapt to the rules of this new world. A world where most men are willing to do whatever it takes to survive. A world where Man is the real plague.
How far would any father go to save his son?

I loved 900 Miles, but I enjoyed 900 Minutes even more than the first book. The stakes are higher, the zombies are creepier, and the action is more intense. Even if you haven't read the first book, you'll love the sequel. John and Kyle team up again to take on the undead to stop a madman from stealing their sanctuary.
One of the best parts about this book is that there's non-stop excitement. The story is so engaging that I found it difficult to stop reading. I read a lot of zombie books, and 900 Minutes is one of my favorites because there's a perfect balance of action and character development. Much like The Walking Dead, this book is more about the survivors than the zombies, but the undead certainly keep the characters on their toes.
I give this book five very bright stars because it has a bit of everything. Even if you're not a zombie fanatic, you'll love this book. I highly recommend 900 Minutes to anyone who enjoys action-packed books.
This book is amazing! All the things I loved about the first one were here and better and all the things that I thought could be better, were, so it gets a very well deserved 5 stars.
John's story makes for seriously compelling reading, you get totally sucked in. You loathe the bad guys with him, suffer the setbacks and feel the victories like you are right there with him, all the hallmarks of an excellent book. I love that feeling, when you just fall into the story and reality just fades away, and you totally get that with this book. I'm trying to be careful with what I say because of spoilers but man, I hate 'G'. Read it so you understand!
I seriously cannot recommend this book enough, whether you read horror/zombie or not, it will grab you and you won't want it to let you go or be able to put it down till you have read it all. When is the next one?!?!?
I listened to this audiobook.. I purchased it in paperback when it was first released but haven't gotten around to reading it.. I finally got a chance to listen to it and it was well worth the wait! I love love loved book 1: 900 Miles. it left off on a huge cliffhanger.. I found that I enjoyed book 1 more... book 2 was good, I enjoyed it.. it was hilarious in parts, this author is always funny! I found parts of it dragged a bit.. but the end was amazing! I listened to it in parts.. with days and weeks in between so that may have attributed to me not being as invested ...
all in all.. it was good! I recommend the series to all zombie lovers.. it's very original.. with all the zombie books out there, this one stands on it own..! very unique! And it's always good to have a good laugh ! hoping there's a book 3!!!
I needed a good zombie fix since I’m waiting for the second half of the Walking Dead to come back so it felt like it was time to check out 900 Minutes. I really enjoyed 900 Miles, but sometimes the second time around can get dull and boring. Thankfully with 900 Minutes that is completely not the case! It maintains a fast paced adventure feel that I loved from 900 Miles, but we also take a look at the darker side of the humans. I liked how the more exposure to the new zombie infested world started to eat away at John and the way the author examines how humans can act overall when put in these lawless situations. The author has a way with one liners that keeps the read fun. I felt like I was in a blockbuster summer adventure movie while I was reading it. It was a fun quick read!
If you thought 900 Miles was a fantastic read then you are in for a treat. The sequel is a action packed gorefest. Brilliantly written. What the author offered was a whole bunch of situations that id never seen in any other ZA book and this made the whole story unpredictable and extremely tense.
This novel had all the things I liked about the first book. I especially liked the forest fire and epic finale! If you liked the first book, you're definitely going to like this one too.
No matter how hard we tried to avoid it, those still alive have all lost a little humanity. The Zs may have kick-started our extinction... but we’ll be the ones that finish it. In the end, Mankind has turned out to be the real plague.
With the final page turner chapters of the 900 Miles Series, reader lay witness to the world of John and closest friend and savior Kyle as the two attempt to fight til the very end to see Avalon continue for another day. Faced with threats of Gordon’s return for vengeance at 8:57 pm, the exact time Jarvis staged The revolt that originally stole the utopia of horrors from his maniacally clutches, John will stop at nothing for his son Tyler’s survival. Blessed with an infant son following the passings of late wife Jenn from childbirth, he struggled with bringing a child up alone, made worse with the Apocalypse of death that swirled around. As the two became closer in time, it’ll take 900 minutes to reach the end.
They severed the disease like a festering wound.
With localities torn apart and the humanity slipping between bloodied fingers, it’ll come to show who still remains humans in a world full in monsters. Trust was a luxury few could afford so when faced with someone worth risking it all for, John felt compelled to a loyalty to his deceased wife and a possibility of a life worth sharing with Claire and daughter Olivia. Trusting his son’s very life in her and Deanna’s hands, four would leave Avalon and only two would truly survive it.
I am a killer.
I wouldn’t let him lose his humanity.
A stain. It’s all that’s left of us after we’re gone.
With a race against time and the enemy looming just out of reach, faiths are sent to the purest test, as they fight as one to eradicate the pains Gordon left in his wake. Following Jarvis’s execution, the people pulled in together tighter setting the world ablaze to save their sanctuary. As Gordon pulled the trigger of Kyle it’s remains up to John whether he’s truly the monster after all as he brings the hammer down to his skull. Worth saving his son, John accepts the loss of his humanity with the life of another snuffed out at his skilled fingers.
I blamed the stupid as well as the intelligent. I blamed the wicked and the righteous.
made the mistake of buying the second book first. I still could follow the whole story of John and Kyle because the author made contextual reading easy. I rushed through this book because it was filled with a chain of insanely tense moments. Davis has a way of writing which creates vivid and disturbing pictures. Also... loved the dirty and dark humor!
This book started off oddly like the game Undead Rising 2 - a former warrior is now a full time devoted parent to his sick child. Following a minor disaster, the medication his child needs is no longer available and now John is on a mission to resupply to make sure that his child can grow up big and strong in a world overrun by zombies.
The difference between John and I? When faced with this decision on an Xbox game, I just stopped playing because I couldn't be bothered working to the time limit to save my ailing child. John is a better person than I am. A much, much better person.
John and his comrade in arms from the first book, Kyle, along with some other menfolk from the surviving human community of Avalon go out to fetch new medical supplies but are faced with more zombies than they counted on and the leader of Avalon they usurped in book one of this series, and is understandably less than happy with them.
John himself is a bit of a non-entity as characters go, his main humanising force is his unwavering devotion to his son and his determination to do whatever necessary to make sure he gets his medication back to him. He does have a couple of fairly contrived moral crises over some extreme acts of violence he's forced to commit to make sure he makes it home in one piece, though necessary to ensure he didn't come across as a complete psychopath they didn't really convince me of anything beyond that.
The story of this book was deliciously predictable, which left more room for the enjoyment of the journey which was bloody, violent and full of betrayal and a surprising number of helicopters for a post-apocalyptic world. I wouldn't recommend this book if you're looking for something original and thought provoking, but I definitely would if you're looking for an exciting action story.
This book is the second in a series and I would highly recommend listening to/reading the first book first as this follows directly on from that, I think I could have benefitted from knowing some of the backstory to this before starting as it took me a little while to get in to it.
Jamison Jones, the narrator of the audio was a perfect fit for this book. This story is told in the first person by the main character, John and Jamison embodies him perfectly, with a perfect 'regular guy' voice with the usual crack of emotion - he adds some more feeling to the character which I think may be lacking in the page version. I would definitely listen to more of his work in the future.
The production quality of this title was excellent, definitely no complaints from me on that score.
It took me a very long time to get back in to reading again and then last night I spent just over an hour reading to finish this one.
Even though I rated it the same as the first book of the duo (900 Miles), I would say I actually enjoyed this one a little more. I especially enjoyed the ending which I read last night. The final fight with Gordon, the feeling of distress when I thought Kyle was dead (He is my favourite) and some rather soppy quotes from John the main man.
I don't think I can relate to any of the characters therefore I didn't get hooked in to these books. They are very fun if you want a light read and/or have a love for zombies. I LOVED the concept of Avalon and then the thought of there being a 'new America' also.
So glad I did not connect my kindle to the new Wifi or this book would have disappeared and I wouldn't have paid for it to read again...
So I got about 25% of the way done and had to quit. I'm disappointed because I really enjoyed the first book and picked this up expecting to break my run of blah books. But something about it is just not doing it for me. There's a lot of telling about past events but that's boring because there's no suspense or anything. Obviously you turned out fine because you lived to tell about it. I kept trying but it wasn't holding my attention. I may finish it at some point. My cheapass paid 4.99 for this ebook. Now you can imagine how I feel.
I purchased the book as soon as it was available. I really enjoyed the first book. I got side tracked and I didn't start the book until the other day. This book is literary crack...I couldn't put it down. It was very action packed. I really liked that we found out the back story of Jarvis and how Avalon came to be. I am looking forward to following John and Kyle on many more adventures. A really great zombie read.
This was a good follow up story to the original 900 Miles. I enjoyed some aspects of the story, but was left wanting in others. Particularly a lack of explanation of the threats to Avalon. I did enjoy the introduction of the "stripes," but would've preferred an a more expanded and enduring role. Overall a worthy second installment that was a nearly as quick a read. If you enjoyed the original, you'll like this one. Thanks.
The story got wrapped up in one group or the other taking control of a safe facility called Avalon. I finished the book for the sake of curiosity, but I could have passed it on without much regret. I'll give it 3-1/2 stars for perseverance. I liked the first book much more.
