Boston had a rich and important tavern history, and it's really depressing to realize that almost all of the historic taverns are long gone. Even a handful that market themselves as such aren't really truly authentic; The Green Dragon as it is only dates from 1993 and The Bell in Hand has only been in its current building since 1844.

This microhistory book had some interesting info- common bar menus, some historic recipes for food and drink, lots of information about where various popular historic pubs used to be located- but it felt a bit short even for a microhistory.
