I very much prefer old guide books to new, simply because there is so very much more written information in them; and the maps and plans are always a delight (though not a replacement for a modern map/plan). By comparison, modern guidebooks tend to contain far more photographs than text.

This particular guide book was especially interesting and fun to use on a trip to Guernsey a few years ago. Because it pre-dates the German invasion of World War 2, it didn't take much to identify and rapidly appreciate the physical changes wrought during that period.

The advertisments are amusing. Almost all hotels draw attention to their 'moderate tariff' unspecified!
