Produced by the award-winning marganGraphics Group, Maran Illustrated Guide to Knitting and Crocheting is a valuable resource to a wide range of readers-from people new to the hobby to those who have dabbled in the occasional project to those more involved knitters and crocheters interested in mastering their craft. Instead of describing the myriad ways to perform each task, Maran Illustrated Guide to Knitting and Crocheting shows the reader the best way, while the full-color photographs and clear, step-by-step instructions walk the reader through each task from beginning to end. Thorough topic introductions and useful tips provide additional information and advice to help enhance the readers' knitting and crocheting experience. Maran Illustrated Guide to Knitting and Crocheting is packed with essential information for readers who are picking up needles for the first time, and will provide more experienced knitters and crocheters with the opportunity to add more advanced techniques to their repertoire.
Ok, don't judge me. I work for Jimmy Beans Wool so I'd say that a good 75% of my week involves knitting once you include my work hours and my actual at-home time that I get to knit. I'm a good knitter, but everybody forgets basics sometimes. This book is often my go-to when I can't quite remember how to do something because I haven't made a pattern that called for that technique in quite awhile. The information is good, the language is clear, and the pictures are awesome! Plus, it includes some basic stitch patterns (in a stitchionary form) that have come in handy more than once when I didn't care for the given trim on a particular pattern.
This is a great book if you're learning to knit or want to stretch your wings on knitting, before each knitting project it teaches you the skills you'll need to do the project. The crochet section is small (57 pages out of 297 pages) almost to the point of why did they bother. It has great pictures. If you're a crochet beginner use this book, but if you're not their are only 2 projects, and some really basic stitches.
This book, along with "Knitting for Dummies," provides just about all the directions a beginning-to- intermediate knitter needs to complete any project. The step-by-step photos in this one are particularly good.
If you knit or crochet, this is a must have. The colored illustrations throughout the book are very helpful. When I took my first knitting class, this is the book the instructor used as a guide for students. I refer to it often.
