The actor who portrayed four-year-old Tommy Bailey presents a scrapbook of photographs and nostalgic memories that include insights into the personal lives of Jimmy Stewart, Frank Capra, and Donna Reed.
I purchased my copy when it was first published. My version has the subtitle, “The Fiftieth Anniversary Scrapbook;” however, the ISBN matches this version.
The book provides the background on how the original story was written, provides stories from the set by the author, and offers interviews with cast members.
The book is about one third text and two thirds photos, which makes it readable in just a few hours. Perhaps it’s the era in which it was originally published, but the font size is rather small which makes it hard on the eyes to read. Some pages have white, cursive font on a black background which is even more difficult to read. There are many full-page or double-page photos from the movie, some of which are blurry. Even the book jacket photo is blurry. There are a handful of personal photos of the cast and from the movie set. These photos are clear, but smaller in size. I would have preferred these personal photos be larger since they are rare.
Unless a diehard fan of the movie, rather than purchasing new I recommend borrowing from the local library or purchasing used.
I listened to the audiobook on my way home from Nashville last night - I loved listening to Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed's voices. One of my favorite movies!
I found this gem at Half Price Books today, snatched it up and ran home to devour in one sitting. Interviews with nearly every cast member and crew brought insight to much of the behind the scenes magic of this beloved movie. No matter how many times I see it always seems fresh and sweet.
I love this movie and it was interesting reading about the behind the scenes stories from the youngest member of the "family". Loved the pictures and it was well worth the money.
