A Jar of Tiny Stars is one of the most popular poetry books from WordSong. This new edition is now expanded and includes the work of the latest five winners of the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Poetry for Children. By turns silly and wise, playful and thought-provoking, the poems in this collection were chosen by young readers as their favorites among those written by NCTE Award winners. New to this collection are works from Eloise Greenfield, Nikki Grimes, Mary Ann Hoberman, Lee Bennett Hopkins, and X. J. Kennedy. Rounding out the collection are poems by Arnold Adoff, John Ciardi, Barbara Esbensen, Aileen Fisher, Karla Kuskin, Myra Cohn Livingston, David McCord, Eve Merriam, Lilian Moore, and Valerie Worth.

I think this book would be aa great fight for older school age children. It is a good introduction to poetry. I do wish this book had more colorful pictures.
Fifteen poets have received the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children. The editors of "Another Jar..." have taken the best loved poems of these poets and presented them to children to chose their favorites. My,do kids have good taste! Barbara Juster Esbensen's "Pencils" is one of my favorites: "the rooms in a pencil are narrow but elephants/castles and/watermelons/fit in".
Poems by David McCord, Aileen Fisher, Myra Cohn Livingston and Eve Merriam are just a few of those chosen. Sketches of the authors and a few words about their relationship to poetry are included. A fine collection.

The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet by author Carmen Agra Deedy is a fiction book intended for ages six to eleven. This book has received no literary awards to date. I read this book on my kindle app. This is a cute little attention getting story of a noisy little rooster that won’t quite up. I enjoyed this story to its simple little story that gets the young readers attention with this defiant little rooster. The illustrations are adorable and pleasant to the eye. This book exposes children to another language used in the text. I rate this book four stars.
