It was a 'routine' mission for the special ops squads that went terribly wrong. From the moment the parasites invaded them, they began to change into something frightening, fierce, and virtually unstoppable. The men knew they had only two options when they learned the order to terminate had come down from high command-stay and die, or run. Taking Sylvie wasn't part of the plan. They wanted her boat. Unfortunately, ditching her wasn't an option. And yet the last thing they needed was the complication of a woman to slow them down, give away their position, and distract them into thinking with their dicks when they were already having a hard enough time taming the beast within them. Rating: carnal/erotica-graphic violence and sexual encounters, multiple sexual partners, orgy-type situation.
This is written by Kaitlyn O'Connor under a pen name. This was a different take on the shifter story. These guys are infected while on a mission and after they escape from the US government who are experimenting on them they take Sylvie with them on their escape. The 4 men are learning who and what they are during the course of the book. So this isn't about well established shifter societies and such but a bunch of guys learning. Sylvie is a typical O'Connor heroine. She is pretty weak and submissive but is pretty well written within her character. The guys are typical of the type of hero KO'C writes also. They were not the terribly amusing sort of bumblers but were in the middle. The focus was mostly on the relationships but the action part of the story was well developed and made sense.
I enjoyed it. I think any fan of shifters and/or Kaitlyn O'Connor/Madelaine Montague will too.
OK, so this book really, really surprised me. I searched the term “wolfen”, loved the cover, vaguely read the plot and grabbed it. Not for a moment did I realize that this book involved a 4-some…or a 5-some…or whatever, the bed was really crowded. And I thought, oh crap, I have one of these ménage books (or whatever 4 guys and a woman are called) that I never read. Except…
It has a plot. A real plot. A great, gripping and fascinating plot with a very interesting twist on the shifter myth. And it’s not just that there are gray wolves in South America. Sylvie and the guys? They’re really awesome characters. I loved this book and I intend to check out more of Ms. Montague’s wolf books.
Nom de plume for Kaitlyn O'Connor. Through a satellite, parasites in a jungle, something has made a bunch of armed forces men into shapeshifting wolves. They meet up with Sylvie when they try to escape the government that is trying to figure out a way to destroy them. Lots and lots of misunderstandings. Can't fictional people just yell and whine their insecurities like normal people? Good book.
Main character is 34. Doctor's said "She's nearing 40!!" and saying she shouldn't have children because of that. Well, oh my! That makes me pause since I'm only just turning 30 and I haven't planned on having my kids for at least another year! By the time I pop out my final teacup human, I'll be knocking at death's door according to these doctors! 34 is NOT nearing 40.
There is no real background for the characters. We know Slyvie's mother died. We know Slyvie's chance of having kids is highly unlikely. We know she had a previous husband (who left her due to the no kids situation). We know Slyvie borrowed her boat from her Step Father. I found it strange though, that we had no idea what Slyvie's life was actually like. What the hell did she do for a living? I'm sorry, but that question would have come up at some point, simply because they'd want/need to know if there were going to be people looking for her. (I'm talking even beyond the boat wreckage. Wouldn't they want to know what her skills were in the real world?)
Of the boys, we knew absolutely nothing other than everyone other than Mac was from the South.
There were times where the book was a bit too much in Slyvie's head for my tastes 'wah! I'm old!' But there is every possibility that I'd think the same way, so I'll forgive that.
All in all though, I did actually really like this.
The relationship between Mac and Slyvie, was quite strong. I, like others would have liked to see a bit more solidification of the other relationships. Also, like someone else, I would have liked to see more of the 'after', see the dynamics of the unit as a family raising their pups.
I actually am tempted to buy a physical copy of this one! Which is saying quite a lot!
This was the first book I read by this author I received it free years ago as part give-a-way, like so many books I read it before I started reviewing but I've just read Call of the Wolf by this author and since I didn't like that book very much since it was too similar to this one I thought it was only fair to post this review.
This is an original and exciting book Mac, Hawk, Cavanaugh and Beau are US soldiers infected by parasites and the army have been experimenting on them for months so they escape, which is when they come across Sylvie. This is well worth a read and I just wish it had been longer.
You can read the synopsis of the story from others. The writing was good. I liked the flow. However, I just did not have any connection with all the characters. And, I thought the ending was too rushed and tidy. I also thought the sex scenes were not all that exciting. This is a first read for me from this author, so will decide if she is for me with the next read from her.
I've read this story a few times before. I enjoy the story, the pacing and characters (for the most part). There are some times when Sylvie is a bit obnoxious and self centered, but for the most part I still enjoyed her character.
I've been on a reading kick lately and have been especially reading multiple partner stories. I think this story could have used a bit more to it. I would have liked to see her spend more one on one time with each guy so we could get to know them better.
Madelaine Montague aka Kaitlyn O'Connor just rocks. How many different pen names does KO write under?
This book was enjoyable, gobbled it in a day.
A group of Special Ops Marines are sent to South America to retrieve a downed satellite in hostile territory. They were told to get every part from it's fall/crash which caused the guys to have to be very thorough in their searching. As they searched, they all began to feel like ants were crawling on them stinging them, getting overheated. Cut to later, as they are getting picked up, their 'pickup' seems to be scared of them, or what they've become. The guys realize they all have claws and more hair. Queue firefight. Last of this scene is the Sargent, Cole "Mac" being shot in the chest repeatedly.
Next is Sylvie on her step-father's yacht. She is 34 and has agreed to help some people get to Cuba from Florida for some medical treatment. She is waiting to pickup these people off Cuba when alarms from the US base @ Getmo begin going off. Suddenly a large bunch of naked men are swimming like mad for her boat while being chased by the military shooting anything that moves. They have been held for months as experiments, tortured by the government & were about to be disposed of because they couldn't be controlled. (It is assumed some kind of parasite has caused this metamorphosis within them.)
Sylvie gets hijacked by these escapees who turn out to be the guys from the beginning, led by Cole "Mac". They outrun the military and set off for Mexico. Along the way, the guys are all salavating to hump Sylvie. The large group splits up into three groups & dropped @ separate locations along the Mexican coastline.
The final group to jump the boat is Cole,s group of 4 guys and Sylvia. Originally the guys planned to drop her off along the beach and let her walk to a town and get help. They hear her screams not long after splitting up as she's being accosted by a group of Mexican army/militia guys. She gets rescued by the "monsters", freaks out, and is told they are the actual "monsters".
Ensue freedom-run/chase on foot through the jungles of Mexico with 4 Marines who can turn into wolves or half wolves and Sylvie. They end up having sex, of course. Although Sylvie has been told she is infertile, the guys sense she is fertile, cause her to go into "heat" and start a mad group/train hump-a-thon.
I sometimes gripe that K.O. doesn't have her heroes perform enough foreplay...apparently this rendition of that author has no qualms about a variety of foreplay. Hot sex with Marines 10 years younger than herself, one after the other after the other...oh and they all have wolf stamina. (fanning self)
She gets preggo, there is throughout a bit of mis-communication drama, but Sylvie isn't a whiner or a bitcher/yeller, which is nice.
Total HEA with a definite chance of more in this series.
It's worth your time to read. :)

I really liked this book. It wasn't anything like some of the reviews I read. It had a great story. This woman was trying to help people get medical care in Cuba they couldn't afford in the US by providing the boat and got stuck in the middle of a military problem gone terribly wrong. A bunch of Special Forces men got a virus that were turning them into beasts and they escaped from the military after hearing that they were going to be terminated. Its a story of survival in the jungles of Mexico. The mens fear of whats happening to them and what they might become. The steal Sylvie's boat with her on it tp escape. They split up in smaller groups and go separate ways. Sylvie the woman in our story winds up with Mac, Hawk, Beau and Cavanaugh. They have to learn to control their beasts and to protect Sylvie from the jungle and themselves as they learn they are turning into a pack and Sylvie is their mate. It has an HEA. I have to say they all deserve it. I don't think sex was used randomly in this story. I think it fit with the story. I wish more of her books were print.
I've read thousands of books and this is one of my favorites. Easily in the top 10! I wish I could give it more stars as 5 just doesn't seem like enough. I'm almost tempted to go back through my books and lower a bunch of my 5 star ratings as this is just so much better than most of the 5 stars I've given out so far.
I was hoping she was going to be following the other 'packs' and that this was the start of a new series, but I haven't seen any follow-up books yet. Her 'Wolfen' series is almost as good as this one though if you want to try more of her books.
This is one of the few menage books where I felt I really got to know all of the male characters. The story line is very intense and it is also one of the few menage books where the menage is a vital part of the story line and not just an excuse for sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes are well done, but they are not gratuitous!
My biggest issue with this story was how the heroine was treated. Spoiler alert! How can they induce a heat, let all the males get in on it and then not tell her about why she acted that way or that she was pregnant. Then the heroine just lets it go when she finds out. She was just too desperate for me. On top of that Mac obviously manipulates her. Due to all of this the romance just didn't do it for me. On top of that the plot wasn't very interesting. I wouldn't recommend this one.
Adult situations: multi-partner romance, military/government cover-up science fiction, romance A good story. with a surprise cameo tie-in to other works at the end. Suspenseful and somewhat erotic in places. Thanks for the interesting read. I would like to know if Ms. Montague will continue the story or these characters will be mentioned in future works, I hope?
I liked this one more than I expected to, because getting me to find anything about jungles and south of our border is a hard sell. I didn't expect that most of the book would take place in the jungle, but it was still an HEA in the end. This an MFMM story with older h and younger H's... four of them! The guys mostly each get a fair amount of attention, though, which is one of the things I like about Madeleine Montague aka Kailtlyn O'Connor books.
4.3 stars. It's not a long read but an interesting one. Marines are exposed to something in a jungle and turn into wolves. Escape military detainment... kidnap a women... fall for her then mate. HEA with kids in Montana. I wish she would have done through the birth instead of skipping ahead years but it was nice to see how their lives ended up.
Good story but there was a something a little off. I think it may have been the lack of communication between Silvie and Mac as well Silvie's inner dialog about her age and infertility. It seemed almost a little too convenient at times or it just didn't run smoothly into the story line. Well and the end was just kind of choppy. I still enjoyed the book, though.

Really enjoyed the beginning of this book it was filled with tension and had a sexy vibe. Then it started to get a bit confusing then all of a sudden we were in a log cabin in Montana with a cutesy scene with daddies and babies everywhere I had to go back because I thought I missed some text.
Really great book... I was afraid at the beginning that the story could be quite poor, but no. I love the way the heros used to become wolves and learn how to be easy with that.
I tried. I really did! The guys weren't too bad, even with the changes, but Sylie had to be the most annoying female character...ever. The writing was good, but when I can't stand a character that much, it makes it really hard to like the book. :(
I love books where the shape shifters are special ops. This book was amazing...I loved the jungle setting. This author has become one of my favourites!
A very enjoyable read. Sylvie annoyed me in a couple of places. The guys were adorable though. Passionate sex scenes. But the ending was a tad abrupt and I lost count of how many kids they had.
