In Victorian times, women were regarded as deviant if they enjoyed a full and exciting sex life. Today, women invite equally pejorative labels if they admit that they don't! Published in 1994, this was probably the first nonfiction book about asexuality... even though the author doesn't embrace the term. (I read it circa 1994 or 95.) The asexuality movement and/or AVEN didn't come into being until the 21st century.

The parts about historical celibate women and their groups are particularly interesting.
This book is a great motivation if you need it, and a good read whether or not you have a personal interest in celibacy.
