When a car accident left Gage Walker’s best friend’s wife a widow and a single mom, Gage knew he had to step in and help out the family. While Gage didn’t believe in roots and attachments, he did believe in responsibility. Trouble was, his “friendship” with Kelsey was stirring up all kinds of feelings that he had buried long ago, like passion, commitment—and pure, raw need. And those feelings could only lead to one thing…
Born and raised in Colorado, Dallas Schulze now lives in California. She sold her first book in October 1983. For a book to work it needs to have a plot, a conflict something that drives the story and not just time-leaps like a Hindi serial, which sadly this book made me feel. The hero attends his best friend's wedding where he meets his wife for the first time and finds her attractive. Then fast forward three years and his friend is dead and the heroine is a grieving widow with a son to raise. The hero helps her out but his job keeps him from the country half of the time. Then we again have a three year leap. The heroine is on her feet now though still uses her husband as a shield from moving forward, the hero rents from her under the guise of helping her financially. They kiss and decide to ignore it, AND another 18 month leap. I mean come on, what was happening in the book. They end up sleeping together but heroine wants to forget that too, hero leaves, comes back injured, heroine has been hiding the fact that she is pregnant with his baby. Hero needs a conk on his head to realize that he has loved her for a long time and his excuse of losing his sister is a cop-out.
"Another Man's Wife" is the story of Kelsey and Gage.
Get ready to yearn.
The first time Gage meets Kelsey is at his best friend's wedding.. to her. He is taken by her, but he loves his friend too much. So time passes, he is their best friend, godfather to their son. He is there when Rick passes away and becomes a shoulder for Kelsey to lean on. He is there years and years later, as a roommate, a friend, an uncle. But will he ever express his feelings for her?
This is a slow burn book. The couple takes a long time to get together, and give into their feelings. There is no villain, just complex relationships and fear of the unknown.
I'm a fan of this trope, but in that usual 90s way, the guy in this book just seems like he's annoyed that he likes her so much. He's always trying to get away from the situation and his feelings. I mean, if it's that annoying, why stick with it? Why not let her go have a nice relationship with someone who wants a relationship? You don't want her, but you don't want her to be happy with someone else. OK dude. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sweet romance, probably enhanced by the siblings and parents who are minor characters (but part of a multi-book series). Glad that Gage and Kelsey found their way to each other!
