But somehow when Kelly Ronan was with the mysterious Bart Monday, her good sense flew out the window. The man was rootless, a maverick who never stayed in one place for long.
Buz' for now she had him all to herself, no matter that it wasn't by choice. They'd been shipwrecked on a small island, and she'd vowed to make the best of things--and Bart definitely topped her list of "best!"
Janice Sutcliffe was born on 27 September 1947 in Texas, USA. She earned her doctorate in English from the University of California, Davis, studying 17th century British Literature before going on to earn a Law degree (though she never practiced law). She also taught English at the University of San Francisco.
She married to writer Ronn Kaiser. They have been writing full-time for 18 years as R.J. Kaiser, sharing their personal and professional lives. They wrote more than a dozen mystery-thriller and general-interest-fiction titles. Most of their books have been critically acclaimed and published around the globe. His relationship mysteries are somewhat unique in the field and have won a wide following among both female and male readers.
4-star adventure story, but the romance was unconvincing. Hero was an adrenaline junkie, heroine a materialistic lawyer. Yes, opposites attract but these two bickered unless they were having hot sex. Heroine cheated on her fiancé while she was with the hero, so I could never warm up to her.
The author must have been channeling mainstream movie directors, because she had the heroine running around in a bikini for most of their adventure. The male-gaze focus and all the rapey characters really reduced my enjoyment.
Still, this was well-written and moved along quickly. Very cinematic.
Wonderful well written romantic suspense. Kelly Ronan and Bart Monday are on a ship near Bangkok when it is attacked by pirates. They swim to a nearby island and spend most of the rest of the book evading pirates and other bad guys. The story line was totally believable. Bart was very alpha without being an ass or unbelievably skilled. He knew he loved Kelly fairly soon in the book and does all he can to protect her. Very good dialog and clean and clear writing. Loved it.
The introduction says the author "has a deep appreciation for other cultures" yet this book is filled with unpleasant and outdated Asian stereotypes 😅 I do realize this book is almost 30 years old, but I ended up skimming most of the second half.
