I read this to my 3 year old, who has been clinging to bottles, in the hopes that it would motivate her to drink from a cup. I was surprised to see that the little zebra makes the choice to stop drinking from bottles with the mommy zebra pestering her to drink from them. It also really confused my daughter, who kept asking why the zebra didn't want her milk, and then stated that the zebra was sad. So at first I thought this wasn't too successful.
But then when I asked her if she wanted a bottle or a cup in the afternoon, she asked for a cup, and has continued to ask for a cup. So it worked for us!
My daughter and I love this series of Hello Genius books. Really cute pictures and simple text made this a good read for infants. My 11 month old was entertained by the colors and pictures. I love that each story is entertaining, yet also teaches a lesson (in this case, growing up and using a big kid cup instead of bottles).
So I love the illustrations but I wish the author would have gone further and used a couple... technically sippy cups are just a more advanced bottle... for use during transition. So 4 stars illustrations, 2 star for content.
Just happened to spot this at a library on vacation and it was just 2 days after our daughter made the break away from her bottles and started using sippy cups all the time! So it was a perfect little story to read.
I like this series. This particular one I checked out for one of the girls I nanny who still drinks from a bottle and is transitioning to a sippy cup. My daughter, although never bottle-fed enjoyed it solely because of the zebra.
I actually hate the baby-behavior-modification-board-book genre. But this one is much better than most. The pictures are good and the text mostly does not make me gag.
