Seemed like the typical married man / mistress story but it was so much more. Well-written characters; I loved Thandy and Montana. Story flowed nicely.
“The January Girl” takes readers through the past and present day of Thandywaye Malone through her eyes and the eyes of the people who love her.
Thandy is educated, beautiful and trying to find a suitable path for her and her daughter. After ten years of being in Jack’s life, she realizes that it’s time to move on. Is Chicago the answer?
“The January Girl” is a good read. I love the way you meet Thandy past and present. All of the characters are interesting and it’s an easy enough read. Refreshing is the way she survives despite her obstacles. Goldie Taylor has written a charming novel.
The January Girl - a book to read in January!!!!!! Saw this book in the used book sale and thought perfect timing.
Set in Atlanta, GA - main character savvy doctor (man) married, with 10 year mistress and he thought he could get away with cheating on the mistress. It all comes crumbling down. Mistress finally leaves. Wife divorces. He & mistress get back together to be torn apart by one of his flings that thinks she can't live without him.
Once a cheater - how can you trust anything they say???
Authors note: The most important, enduring romance is the one that I have with myself. If there is one trust to Thandy, it is that she reflects my renewed spirit, the strong sense of self I gain with those experiences and the ability to live, love, and laugh everyday with someone who deserves every piece of me.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I saw the author on The View and checked to see if my local library had any of her books. This is the one I found. While the book is well written I didn’t like the treatment of Dr. Gabrielle’s wife. Thandy, the Mistress, was painted as the beautifully loved woman that the doctor blatantly mistreated his wife and children for. And Angel was treated as a throw away. There may be men like the great rich doctor in the story, but the story was over the top. The author did a good job of filling in Thandy’s back story and including her family dynamics, but Montana, her daughter, just seemed to appear at some point in the story. And Thandy is best buds with the wife and sons in the end. How realistic is that!
This was an easy read. A book of triumph in all manners of tragedy. We all need a good love story every now and then to make us believe in the wonderful things; no matter how hard it may get life will get better.
This novel is about a woman, Thandy, and her quest to find love and happiness. Growing up, Thandy had a troubled childhood with her parents and found love with Monty. Monty cared for Thandy in the ways she wanted but she was unaware of the dangerous lifestyle he led. Life was becoming lovely for Thandy and Monty until local authorities got involved.
Thandy decided to change her life for herself and her daughter for good. She went to college and became a successful lawyer. Now she's met another guy, Jackson Gabrielle, who is a successful surgeon who seemingly fills Thandy's empty heart with expensive gifts and love. As Thandy discovers the truth about Jackson , she will be forced to decide between happiness and her dignity. Which one will she choose?
Goldie Taylor's "The January Girl" was a very good and exciting read. It started out slow with many details but turned out to have a stunning ending. I recommend this book to all females in relationships.
This was a nice, easy read, something that I really needed after finishing a rather heavy book before this. While I enjoyed this book, I almost wish the author had gone into more detail about certain events and details from the character's lives. I thought the story itself was interesting and I really felt for Thandy and her situation, but I wish we'd been given even more. I was not, however, expecting the twist at the end, which was a nice surprise.
I also really liked the author's note at the end, which seems a strange thing to make note of, but she sounds like a really cool chick and someone I'd like to sit down and chat with. I'm interested to read her next novel when it's released.
Good entertainment written by a skilled writer. Taylor took me away from the day I was in, into the world of other interesting characters, and I'm always grateful for the chance to be carried into the words on the page.
