5 Freedom to Be Stars ⭐

I have always enjoyed books by this author but Release is by far her best and my favourite to date. I was hopeful that this story would be a winner however I didn't anticipate how giddy it would make me feel.

Where do I start? I adore a rags to riches romance except that doesn't necessarily mean financial wealth. To me it means obtaining an abundance of happiness and love after growing up with none. Add in a menage of three worthy people and this was my kind of fairytale.

“Fate kept me here long enough to meet you,” he’d say. “And if fate brought us together, we’re meant to stay together.”

Growing up poor in a rough neighbourhood without parenting finds Mattias playing protector and guardian to a younger Gennedy. These two are left playing house and fending for themselves. And as the years go by it's no surprise that affection turns into love. Until the unthinkable...and Mattias and Gen get seperated.

“When the woman I love is in love with another person,” he breathed against my skin, his large hands falling to my hips. His kisses fell down my spine like liquid heat, the intensity, and pressure in my sex growing to a painful peak. “That person becomes someone that I want to love, too.”

With Mattias away, Gen is barely surviving until she meets another, Silas. Yet in this instance love is kind not bitter and Mattias encourages these two to be together. The only condition, is that his place always remains in Gen's heart...and quite possibly with Silas as well.

Spoiler free, Release is an epic tale of hard choices, pure love and the freedom to be with whomever makes you happy. It spans years as past and present love comes to pass and two men love one woman enough to share. It contains an unconventional relationship that was inspiring.

Conflicted about this story. Loved the first half, struggled with my feelings through the second. Mattias is one of the BEST (and unrealistic) heroes I've read in a long time.

At sixteen he's taking care of Gen (13). He cares so much for her, does everything he can to provide for Gen, and she adores him. The beginning of this story had slightly the same feel as Fighting Silence by Ali Martinez.
Mattias is not plain. He’s extra like avocado. He’s hot and strong; he’s loyal and honest, he’s both gentle and tough.
Their relationship is so beautifully honest. Mattias waits for her to turn eighteen, and they finally become a couple, it was so damn HOT.
"That’s how we’re gonna work, forever, okay? Truth. Even when it’s ugly.”
Around the 30% mark Mattias is taken away, leaving Gen alone at nineteen. This could have been a pivotal time for Gen, growing emotionally and finding her own strength. But she doesn't, she begins to disappear inside herself. Mattias, loving her more than anything, tells her to find someone to care about her while he's away.

She does, and this new relationship felt...awkward. It was introduced awkwardly, and talked about awkwardly. Silas is gentle, kind, and completely understands the dynamics of Gen and Mattias. He's been in a poly before, so he's comfortable in that role. What wasn't believable was when Mattias returns home and Mattias lives for Gen, she's his everything.

Most MMF stories we read are fluffy and fun versus this one, which felt slightly real and uncomfortable.
“When two people fall in love, and one or both of them fall in love with another person, and then the three of them make it work, together, so no one gets their heart broken.”
Suspending reality that 16-year-old could pay rent and support himself yet alone another teenager, there was a lot that didn't ring true for me in this story. Still, highly recommended first the first half and if you can handle a somewhat unique poly relationship, you'll enjoy this one! Has a really beautiful ending.

I love Daisy Jane’s book and her taboo stories! So much love in this story and how one can make their own family. Family isn’t always blood and this proves it. Despite the character’s backgrounds and the hardship they experience, they endure and end up better than ever! I love the growth they all go through and learn together. The encounters and love scenes are so steamy! Holy hotness! Definitely ends with a HEA and an epilogue!

I really enjoyed the first half with Gen and Mattias, but the second part with Silas just didn’t gel for me.

I usually enjoy this author's work, for the most part, but this book isn't one that I liked much at all. Which is obviously disappointing, but even more so since I'm in desperate need of a good book that isn't something I have to commit to a series for, or learn a fantasy world for.

What bothered me the most:

- Quite a few spelling/grammar/punctuation mark issues; missing words from sentences that you have to fill in the blank for because you know they are supposed to be there and they just aren't; instances where a sentence would say something like "wouldn't" when it's clearly supposed to be "would"; breaks in sentences like the author accidentally hit enter after a random word and the sentence continues on a whole different line; first letters in a sentence not being capitalized; etc--all things that could've been easily avoided if someone spent the time to proof read and fix it. I usually look past a few mistakes because no one is perfect, and a few mistakes here and there are a given, but this book is filled to the brim with them.

- A 16 year old (Mattias) was able to pay for an apartment and living for him and a 13 year old (Gennedy)? From mowing lawns? I know he got into running drugs years down the line, but even still, I find it hard to believe it was possible he kept a roof over their heads.

- Mattias being so possessive over Gen, them always claiming they are it for each other, only for him to tell her to find another man to fuck while he's in prison. Then pushing her to be in a relationship. It felt so out of character.

- Silas's character felt like it was planted into the story in a way that never took root and thrived like it should have. Like, he just randomly pops up at a park where Gen is, then she goes off with him to his shop, he gives her his number. . .then there's yet another time jump, and now it's a year later and she's in love with Silas? We didn't get to see any of it. At least with Matt and Gen we saw a bit of history, but we get fuck all with Silas. We learn the bare minimum about his past (like a solid two facts). Made it really hard to believe the love between them. And how it segways into them becoming a throuple was just odd. Gen is adamant that Matt won't go for it, that he isn't sexually interested in men-or anyone but her for that matter, but Silas somehow knows he is? And then Silas has that private meeting with Matt which came off weird as fuck to me. Like, why is he telling Silas he's getting out next week but didn't tell Gen? Made no sense why it was so secretive when it seems like something Matt would be all too excited to share with Gen personally. And the relationship between Silas and Matt seemed especially unnatural; there's not a single POV between the two mmc's, so we see none of them getting to the point where they want to be together. It just happens. And it seems like Silas is much more eager to be with Matt than Gen--the fact that there's a scene where Gen and Silas are being intimate and Silas is kinda slow to getting hard until she starts asking him about Matt didn't help my view with that--even though it says in the book that Silas wanting Matt stems from the fact that Gen wants Matt. Maybe that's how it starts, but it sure as hell felt like his connection ran much deeper with Matt than the girl he supposedly was in love with.

- Them-Silas and Matt-getting together is the perfect segway into my next issue: the limited communication surrounding the three-way relationship. It felt like they didn't have enough conversations about the logistics of becoming a throuple, or really any at all. I know that Silas and Gen talked about it a little, but other than that, they just jump into it. Resulting in Gen's random outburst about them kissing for the first time, because she feels like it came out of nowhere and they were doing it behind her back due to none of them discussing how it's all going to work between them, so she gets upset that they are kissing without having asked her permission. Which, I can understand in a way, but also not. She's in a relationship with both of these men, and she's been behind them all getting together, plus Silas has not made his feelings for Matt secret, nor has Matt with his feelings about Silas, but the second the two men kiss she is demanding to know why they aren't apologizing to her like it's not something that she should have been expecting? It makes no sense. And the way it's handled with the patronizing explanations from the mmc's irritated me. Instead of sitting down and having a logical discussion about everything like they already should've done, they tell her that they shouldn't limit themselves and it's just to be expected. Idk, rubbed me the wrong way how it was dealt with.

- Which brings me to: the first time Mattias and Silas sleep together is because Gen tells them she wants them to. I kind of expected it because I knew we weren't getting any POV's from the mmc's, but it disappointed me a lot. Almost every time I read a mmf it seems like the mmc's relationship to each other is based around the mfc controlling when and how the men are intimate. It doesn't come off as natural, and it's just really annoying to me when it happens this way instead of letting the mmc's evolve in their relationship with each other at the pace they want to. Instead, the rate of how intimate they are together seems to be based around the mfc thinking it would be "so hot" to see the mmc's together and wants it to happen. Nothing wrong with the mfc being attracted to it, obviously, but I just don't like when it's gone about this way.

- And, finally: the relationship between Mattias and Gen. At first, it started off strongish. For almost five years, they were all each other had, just them trying to survive the shitty life they'd been dealt. . .and then Mattias went to prison. During the first 30%, we got to see how close they became; how they knew they would end up together and it would always be them against the world and that sort of thing. But then, Matt gets arrested, pushes her to find another guy, and when he gets out of prison it's like all that build up from the first 30% was just gone. I hardly felt a connection between them anymore. I was expecting Matt and Gen to, I dunno, have some moment between them or something to reiterate that love between them, but Matt seemed more interested in Silas than Gen. Again, I know a lot of the off feelings I have about the relationship between Matt and Silas is because we virtually see none of it bloom except for what little inner dialogue Gen has to say about it, but the fact that it seemed like Gen took a backseat (which she literally did when they picked him up lmao) to Silas felt so weird considering the history dynamic. They-meaning Matt and Gen-have all this history, and Matt just got out of prison after three years, but their reunion and what followed was so lackluster that I felt no chemistry or much love between them at that point. Sure, they said the words, but none of it felt real.

Idk, just all around bad vibes with the book. Disappointing since I have liked the author's work in the past, but it's unrealistic to assume I'd like everything I guess. Oh well. Still plan to read more of her work, so, hopefully I enjoy my next read by her.

I really wanted to love this book. I love RH and Poly books but the way the characters developed had me so confused. The first half of this book is the two main couple growing up, which once you get to half way through the book and encounter the second mmc, the connection between the FMC and the 2nd MMC feels like an afterthought. There is almost no connection at all, we just have to accept that she has fallen in love while feeling the darkest depression, and none of it makes sense. She is just immediately feeling safe around a surfer? What? because he is a himbo? None of it makes sense.
That being said I would have left it at 3 stars but there was a scene where shes trying to get it on with her himbo, and he wont get hard, but then at the mention of her other man he gets hard.. This right here made me almost wanna immediately dnf. Im not here for there to be a power dynamic where the guy isnt as interested in one than the other. But thats entirely my own preference obviously, I prefer when the attraction isnt used that way.

SLOW BURN ALERT

They aren't even in the same room together until 79%. They have two scenes, one with MM. No DP. No one goes to Paris. Both scenes are only threesomes because three people are in the room. They really only touch in pairs. And Gennedy, who has the dumbest name in creation, has the nerve to be jealous at first. My Sister in Christ, I did not slog my way through this book for you to slow the first significant MM interaction to a grinding halt.

So many emotions! ♥️♥️♥️

I really loved Release! Not the typical MMF/MFM story as it really explores themes of abandonment, poverty, incarceration (from both sides) along with being super steamy and hot as hell. Every woman needs a Mattias and Silas in their life! 🔥🔥🔥

MMF - Taboo Romance

Mattias has been watching over Gen since she was 13 & he was 16, he provided and protected her… being everything she needed… as they got older Gen started to feel an attraction to Mattias but with their ages being a big factor, it was nothing the two could ever act on, not until she turned 18.

After Gen’s 18th birthday, everything seems okay for them but then their world comes crashing down when Mattias gets arrested & sent away for years. How can Gen continue when the only person to put a roof over her head, to provide food for her and protect her is gone? My heart shattered for Gen & it broken even more when Mattias tells Gen to find another man to care for her until he’s able to come back home for her. Only when Silas comes into the picture, things don’t pan out like we expect them to… Mattias & Silas start to care for each other as well and form a strong bond while Mattias serves his time.

Daisy always brings such uniqueness to her writing that it’s impossible to not enjoy the love stories she gives us.

Gen and Mattias live in proverty & Mattias does what he has to do to survive and to ensure a solid future for Gen. I was crying TWO PERCENT IN YOU GUYS. TWO.
The story is very low angst but it still grips your heart.

For the first time, the golden retriever himbo didn’t capture my favor lol Mattias had first place in mt heart to the very end.

I have to admit, I was a bit scared after reading the first few pages. The FMC is a minor at the beginning of the book, and she's in an extraordinarily vulnerable position. The MMC is an older boy, and I was braced for something ugly dressed up as a romance, but I had heard good things about the author so I carried on.

I read this book months ago, and only just realized that I hadn't left a review, and I think it's telling that I remember this book pretty vividly. While the situation the main characters are in at the beginning of the story is pretty dire in terms of basic human needs they've got a real community of people who care about one another, and their survival doesn't seem too good to be true.

It's a romance, but it's also an examination of class. The two men are from quite different backgrounds, but the second man introduced in the MMF group is a genuinely decent man who doesn't have the preconceived biases that might stop a lesser or less aware man from making a sincere connection.

I gave this book 5 stars because as a love story and a story about resilience and happy endings for people who don't have happy endings shown in stories often enough, it works. It was an enjoyable read, and the emotional connection of the characters made the heat included in the more explicit scenes feel all the more genuine.

Finer points that contain spoilers and regard the non-romance parts of the book are below.

But today, 10 months after initially reading the book, that's my main and really only quibble.

This was a good story but felt a little disconnected with the arrival of Silas. The relationship between Matthias and Gen was so well developed, deep and well thought out. The relationship between Silas and both Gen and Matthias wasn’t really explored. One minute he’s a stranger in a park, next he’s in deep with both of them.
I actually really liked the throuple dynamic between the characters but would have loved more time and insight into how the relationship took shape. Perhaps the use of other characters pov’s to give us a better understanding of what was happening between the guys?
I loved each character, though I feel Silas was a little less rounded, but he had a lot less page time than Gen or Matthias.
The spicy scenes were pretty good but the MM & MMF relationships needed more exploration.

I thought this story was very well-written, but the plot just didn't do it for me. I love menage romances, but this didn't feel like one to me. It felt more that the FMC had two separate relationships with each man that blended into a group dynamic towards the end of the story. But the buildup to them all coming together kept getting derailed by the FMC's doubts about the relationship - and I think that took away from the story a little bit. I think the characters and the premise of the book were really strong, but there could have been more done with the relationship.

The COMMUNICATION! When I think of a throuple in real life… i 100% don’t think it would be possible (& successful) without good communication (especially when trying new things) … and this book really plays into that.

The conversations they have together before & after group activities really just makes this the most realistic MMF book.

I felt all the angst & tension.. & omg the spice. Like this was hot… really hot lol.

it starts when she’s 13, so its a slow burn, and the actual threesome comes almost at the end of the book. mattias tho… damn, i have no words for him, i think he’s the reason i pushed through and finished it. if i would describe my ideal man, it would be mattias.

the writing style is so confusing, many grammatical errors, the 🌶 scenes are okay

4.5 stars - this was so freaking good.
i loveddd the beginning of this book. it was the perfect mix of angst, friends to lovers, forced to be separated, ott jealous/possessive Hero, etc etc.
when the second Hero got involved, i was hesitant. without back story, i was worried it was too similar to cheating, which i don’t fw. HOWEVERRR, it wasn’t like that at allll. both Heroes were so freaking perfect and understanding.

matteo was genuinely the perfect mmc in the beginning. his whole personality was super protective and obsessed with the heroine which i loved. i was super confused when he suggested for the heroine to find someone to hookup with, but it just showed how much he cared for the heroine over his own happiness.
silas was also genuinely perfect. he was kinda the opposite to matteo, but in the best way. super progressive, kind, and understanding of what the heroine was going through. i fell in love with both these men honestly.

i do wish that this was multi pov though, or at least had an occasional POV from one of the men, as i really wanted to know the stuff that happened just between them, and the buildup to their feelings for each other.
the heroine kinda annoyed me a bit when she was upset about the boys having a relationship without her presence, but she communicated well that it was one of her insecurities, and the men fixed it 100% (pls when will my mans get a tattoo for me omg).

every steamy scene was super super hot, and the mm scenes were my favourite <333 i do think that this book could’ve been longer though, since the men don’t even fully interact until 75% of the book. this book was written super well, and i honestly would’ve loved a second one so that this wasn’t as short/rushed - and would’ve been more in depth 🫶🏽🫶🏽

def recommend bc this was amazing omg

I need moreeee!

I don’t think I have ever lost myself in a book like I just did with Release. This story was so raw, so beautiful, and so freaking good. This story took me on a journey that had me going through so many emotions. I always get invested in books but there was just something different about this one. Release is different than all of the books that I’ve read by Daisy and this one might truly be my favorite.

The storytelling in this book was perfect. I find myself disliking books that go into the past but I loved that this book started off in the past and each chapter was a step closer to the present. I really felt more invested in the layout. The characters were just so raw and so beautiful. I loved how open and honest they were with each other. Even though there were times I wanted to slap Mattias for some of the secrets he hid, I knew why he did. I loved the way all of the characters loved each other and took care of each other.

I just really loved this story and I’m glad it showed up as a recommendation. I wish I could read it for the first time over and over again. It’s truly just beautiful, in my opinion. Gennedy, Mattias, and Silas WILL FOREVER HOLD A PLACE IN MY MIND.

I am a little surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! My heart beat faster, my stomach churned, I cried a little, I held my breath... it is a slow burn, ménage romance with an unexpected HEA (well, I mean, if you read the blurb it's maybe not SO unexpected, but I really didn't know how it would work out).

Daisy Jane seems to take me by surprise and after now reading a few of her books, I don't know why I am caught off guard when I really enjoy the book.

MF, MMF, MFM, MM (the MFM, MMF and MM are not until the end and are a very small part of the story, so if that's what you are looking for, just be aware - this really is more relational). Not RH

first time/virgin, friends-to-lovers, brother/sister dynamic (NOT bro/sis though, at all), love triangle, bad boy and the good guy. Note that the story start when they are under 18yo, but absolutely NOTHING happens until they are 18 (in case this is a trigger for you).

There are some small formatting issues, but it didn't detract anything for me (and I am pretty sensitive to them). Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 🌶🌶🌶 - hot, but there is a story, not just smexy times

If you like spicy, this is totally for you do you like balm is it trusted and love? This is definitely for you if you’d like a little bit of forbid yeah, this is for you. Some of this book kind of surprised me inside it really surprise me at all at some of it I can totally relate to. Some of it just blew my mind. I was like wow oh OK. But it had a really happily ever after I really like that. The only part that bothers me and I get why it was the way it was I mean when you grow up depending on somebody counting on somebody knowing that they’re always there devastate you when you’re gone for a bit. But needing somebody to survive. Yeah, that’s a bit hard for me. I learn to love myself and except myself before I went there, and her inability to function really well. I would be happy without somebody being there for her like I said, I get where it comes from with the storyline because that’s how she grew up but for me, that was a little bit hard, it definitely explains why things played out the way they did though it was it darn good book.

Oh my god. This book was not at all what I expected. I started reading knowing it was MMF, so I kept trying to imagine a second guy in the relationship between Gen and Matthias and really, really struggled because those two were so rock-solid and incredible together— it was the first time in an MMF book (of which I read many!) that I was dreading the intro to the second guy because I thought it would be impossible to believe that Gen and Matthias could open to someone else.

Boy, was I pleased to be wrong! Silas worked with them, and the writing style, with all the time skips, worked perfectly— though I will say, I still want more about the time period when Silas and Gen started dating and moved in. That was my one complaint in the whole book; too much explanation of that time, not enough actual story-telling. But Silas became a fully developed character despite that, and I ended up loving the whole story.

I read this book very quickly and I really enjoyed it. I like the authors writing style and will be reading more of her in the future. I loved all the characters I think she portrayed an honest look into a ménage relationship with insecurities. What I didn’t like was how the second person in the relationship is introduced like almost 50 percent in the book at first I thought it was going to be Estaban. Also the book just jumps from Silas and Gen’s relationship and we never really got to see the beginning of that and I wanted Gen to have more guilt and such. Also Mattias just accepts everything and we don’t really get his POV. I would wish for more POVs.

This was a novel I simply couldn’t put down! From the very beginning I loved reading about Gennedy and Mattias, and watching their relationship transform from him being her protector, to eventually her lover.

I loved the slow burn of their relationship, and them waiting for Gennedy to be 18. The sexual tension was intense and made for a perfect taboo love story.

And then… things happen, it gets really emotional, and Silas is introduced to the picture.

I loved everything about this book and watching their relationship transform and change as time goes on.

This book has everything I could ask for: a whirlwind of emotion, MMF tropes, sexy as sin men, and hot steamy love scenes.

This is the second book of Daisy Jane I’ve read and tbh I won’t be reading anymore. Things always seem to pick up between 70-80%, some transitions throughout the stories come out of no where and don’t flow at all, it leaves me lost sometimes about what happened in between and I don’t really like that sometimes we read through a character memory and then we have to read it again because she’s wrote about the situation as well, one or the other would be fine and leave more room to clear transitions up or something. Obviously I’m not a writer and each author has their own style, but this author just isn’t for me 😞

It was entertaining. But I can’t believe in a throuple. Perhaps it can work but in this book it felt hurried and more like three relationships at the same time. That I can belief.

Also what is it to go to prison and let down the love of your life? No no no.
And a 360 degrees turn from “this kitty is mine” to a “I don’t want this depressed Gen when I’m released, so go and find a substitute ” and finally “ let’s get matching tatts and tell the girl we did it because of her, wink wink”. No, just no.

Ps I was waiting for the big reveal that Si and Mat met inside and fell in love. But no again.

This book threw me for a loop!

What a twist right there at the beginning…

Gennedy loved Mattias so much and that present throughout this entire story but at one point she was completely falling apart without him! I’m happy she found Silas and as a unit they were all able to stay together and build a life with one another.

I wish we could have had more time seeing them in the early days, maybe facing more problems but I love “love” and that’s what I got!

The beginning of the book very clearly sets up a timeline and character development over the span of about 8 years until it gets to "present day". Then when it's in present tense, it is jumping around so much that I have no clue what's happening. One chapter, she had JUST met Silas, and the next time he shows up AT ALL in the story, she loves him and they met over a year ago and Matthias knows about him and has met him and it just casually summarizes MONTHS of relationship development.

What an unexpected book!
I went into this one with the expectation of 90% smut, but boy was I pleasantly wrong.
Definitely a good amount of spice thank you Daisy Jane, but the fucking EMOTIONS 🥹
Be prepared for the feels.

I did find it a little bit repetitive at the start, mostly around descriptions of things and people that I felt were already described, but I soon was swept up into the emotions and growth of the characters.

This book was kind of confusing. It was a little bit of a slow burn but then there was smut but then everything was paused and then there was Silas who went from a random stranger and then the next page jumped to year later and they were in love? The last 30% of the book was really good once the “throuple” was together. But the first 70% was confusing and frustrating
