This is a magical story of a faerie that betrays another who is next in line to be the heir that can
reunite the faerie realm.
Kelty is betrayed and as a result sees what may befall her family and kingdom if she and her family fight the injustice. But she faces being branded an outcast if she doesn’t fight. This story centers on the decision she eventually comes to after weighing both choices.
I enjoyed it and am looking forward to continuing the story in the future books in this series. I believe anyone who loves a good fantasy story that can hit home in the human realm as well will enjoy this story.
It promises to be a exciting journey.

I read The Nameless and loved it, so I was excited when the author announced she had a prequel to the series coming soon! While The Nameless, the first book in the Tales of an Outcast Faerie series, already starts in the human world, Outcast tells the story of why Kelty was banished from the world of Faerie in the first place.
Although this story is short, I loved getting a glimpse of Faerie, especially the author’s descriptions of how magic works in this colorful world. I also enjoyed finally learning the reason why Kelty hates Briar so much—and without giving anything away, I have to say I don’t blame her one bit!
Overall, Outcast was a short but enjoyable read! I look forward to finding out how Kelty’s story will end!

Intriguing start to a faerie series to be sure!! This book grabs you from the first page and just pulls you along in the story. The lead female is feisty and strong with a voice of her own. Can't wait to read the next book!

A more internal struggle
While Rose still writes in her smooth, fast-paced style, Outcast has a softer, more internal struggle. Not a lot of action, but still quite a bit of tension as Kelty realizes her decisions may affect her whole world.

This story is a prequel that I recommend to read before the serie. In here we are introduced to the night fairy princess and get to know how she ends up getting herself in danger. I don't like spoilers so I can't say much more. I liked reading this without preconceived information, so don't even read the blurb for the next book, there is such at the end of the book, and trust me: it's pretty good!
There is a lot of a thriller theme in this series, and it starts right in this first book. I can't wait for reading more!

Outcast is a beautifully crafted fantasy prequel that delivers far more than a simple introduction to the Tales of an Outcast Faerie series. Allison Rose skillfully blends emotional storytelling, magical intrigue, and compelling character development into a novella that leaves readers eager to continue Kelty's journey while deepening their understanding of the world she inhabits.
One of the novella's greatest strengths is Kelty herself. Her transformation from an ordinary faerie to an outcast is handled with emotional honesty and sensitivity, allowing readers to fully experience the heartbreak, confusion, and resilience that define her character. Her vulnerability makes her immediately relatable, while her quiet determination hints at the strength she will continue to develop throughout the series.
The faerie world is equally captivating. Although the novella is concise, Rose creates a magical setting filled with mystery, beauty, and underlying danger. The encounter that forever alters Kelty's life unfolds with excellent pacing, balancing suspense and emotion while gradually revealing the consequences of betrayal and deception. Every scene contributes meaningfully to the larger story without ever feeling rushed.
What makes Outcast especially memorable is its exploration of identity, loss, and perseverance. Beyond its fantasy elements, the novella speaks to the universal experience of feeling different, rejected, or misunderstood. Kelty's journey reminds readers that adversity often becomes the foundation for personal growth, and that true strength is frequently discovered only after life's greatest setbacks.
The emotional depth of the story is complemented by Allison Rose's engaging writing style. The narrative flows effortlessly, combining vivid descriptions with heartfelt character moments that make the novella both immersive and emotionally rewarding. Despite its shorter length, the story delivers satisfying character development while leaving enough unanswered questions to naturally draw readers toward the next installment.
Overall, Outcast is an excellent introduction to a richly imagined fantasy series. Allison Rose has created an emotionally compelling prequel filled with memorable characters, enchanting world-building, meaningful themes, and just the right balance of mystery and magic. It is highly recommended for readers who enjoy young adult fantasy, faerie fiction, magical adventures, coming-of-age stories, and emotionally driven fantasy series.

This was a great backstory to the Tales of an Outcast Faerie series! The fae are split between day and night courts and the day ultimately rules over the night. Kelty, the night court princess, is special and has been told from her naming that she is meant to bring the two courts together when the time is right and must hide her powers until then. One mysterious fae is determined to set her downfall and in deceit that has been placed between them she must decide whether or not she should stay and fight for her and her people or to leave everything behind and keep them alive. Kelty had an amazing personality that was feisty and she had a good heart. Her relationship with her sisiter, Kallyn, was realistic- they didn’t always see eye to eye, but they were there for one another when needed. I loved the faerie world that Allison has created and the descriptions easily help you visualize it. I can’t wait to read the next book to see Kelty start her journey in the human world!

The cover and blurb of this book appealed to my inner child because faeries have been a theme of mine since I was a kid; from collecting fairy figurines, to drawings, and of course books. I couldn't wait to immerse myself in a story about faeries, and I was not let down. I love the beautiful faeirie world Rose created. I read this book fast since it's a novelette and was fairly short. I did go in knowing that it is a prequel so it is filled with backstory and to my eyes, written in a bit of a story telling fashion with the main character's point of view a bit distant, but at times it does show a lot more. I am looking forward to reading "The Nameless," and hoping that it has a tad deeper POV than "Outcast" does. All in all, a good and enjoyable read.

Allison Rose
This is a cute introduction to Allison Rose's version of the land of Faerie.
I'm used to reading a bit more adult versions of the land of the Fae...a la Laurell K. Hamilton, so this was a bit of a departure for me in reading YA fiction.
It captured my attention enough that I am interested to read more in the series...

Faeries, Magic, deceit, and ancient wars. This prequel story sucked me in right away with curiosity! I’ve had the main series on my tbr for a while and figured reading this first couldn’t hurt, so why not? Guys, the world building and the court intrigue were absolutely fabulous. I can’t wait to dive into the other books!!

This is a cute prequel story to the book The Nameless. This is Kelty's story before she became an outcast. It tells you all about a deceiving trick that changes Kelty's life. It was a good short read with a lot of story to it.

I really enjoyed this book! I fell in love with the writing style of the author. It really made the characters come to life for me. I am a sucker for a good fairy story. I can’t wait to read more in the series. This was an amazing intro story and has now gotten me hooked.

This is the part that happens before The Nameless, and I think it sheds a light on how things came to be. Enjoyed it very much.
If you haven't read the Nameless, its best to start with Outcast I think.

Engaging Prequel to New Faerie Series!
Kelty’s backstory of how she became an Outcast is fast-paced and full of intrigue and deception. Nice look into the Faerie Courts of Day and Night. I look forward to reading more. Enjoy!

Read the first book and didn’t realize this was a prequel. Gives a background on how Kelty was banished from the world of Faerie. Although it was short, I enjoyed the author’s description of how magic works and enjoyed learning the reasons why such and such were.

This one was actually better than the first book. The Nameless left me confused the entire time I read it but it was a short book so I pushed through. I like the story, it's good and the writing was better in this one. I will keep reading the series because I want to know how the story ends.

Outcast (Tales of an outcast Faerie #0.5) is the prequel to the series and I definitely recommend This is the story before Kelty gets banished and why

This is an intriguing prequel. It's a young adult novella, but there seems to be more layers to this faery mystery than with many other young adult books. I will continue reading this series.
This novella adds to my interest in reading the full length novels in this series.
