Alaskan Rebels #3

A Rebel's Trust

Rate this book
A solo adventurer determined to do things on her own. An ex-special force member evading his nightmares. When they collide while escaping dangerous forces in the Alaska wilderness, will they trust each other to find safety? After Sunny Rebel’s business partner left her with a damaged faith in others and an empty bank account, she hopes tackling adventures alone will protect her from repeat heartache. When she started her social media video channel, it was a desperate means to end the embarrassment of being duped by her boyfriend and business partner. She couldn’t bring herself to go back to the mountaineering community she loved on Mount Denali, not when she’d be greeted with whispered rumors and truths behind her back. Sure, she may be a people person, but showing viewers the wilds of Alaska is just as satisfying as guiding climbers up America's tallest peak. A trek through the remote gold mining district where her parents grew up will give her at least two weeks to get her head on straight and figure out her life’s next step. Something broke in Davis Fields that last month he was enlisted, and even his job at Stryker Security Force can’t fix it. He could always be relied on, was always quick to help, which was probably why he’d been targeted. Used. Now, he’s only left with anger. It boils in him, always at the surface. That’s why he’s spending the summer sleeping in a tent, helping a military buddy mine flecks of gold from the Alaskan earth. Hopefully, the isolation will help him get a handle on himself. When Sunny witnesses a heinous crime, her jaunt through the wilderness becomes deadly and her only help is a gruff man she hardly knows. Will Sunny and Davis escape the Alaskan wilderness alive, or will the lurking dangers claim them both? If you like heart-pounding action, toe-curling romance that keeps it clean, and a family of captivating characters, you’ll love Sara Blackard’s riveting romantic Alaskan adventure series.

This installment in such a fantastic series focuses on the youngest of the seven Rebel Siblings, Sunniva ‘Sunny’ May Rebel.

Both Sunny and ex-military Davis Fields are independent, strong yet flawed characters, who are struggling with having faith in themselves and in others. They learn that they’ve wasted so much time in second-guessing and in pushing away opportunities to open their hearts.

I love that the Alaskan wilderness helps them heal. It certainly pushes them to the edges of their capabilities, but it provides the perfect setting to bring out the best in both of them and allow them to increase their faith in themselves and each other.

I liked the creative flashback chapters that allowed me to see how these two initially met.

This is one of my favourite Alaskan-set romantic suspense series.

You can read all of my reviews at Nerd Girl Loves Books.

This is book 3 in the series and I haven't read the first two books so I was a bit concerned, however this book reads as a stand alone and I didn't have any problems getting into the story. There is just enough back story provided in this book to let me know what happened in the other ones to provide context.

Sunny Rebel is part of a large family filled with military veterans and adventurists. She had a mountain climbing tour business but was swindled by her former partner and shut down the business and returned home to live with her family. Shaken and not trusting herself, Sunny starts a social media channel of her solo adventures trekking through the wilderness and mountaineering in Alaska. During one of these trips she finds herself near the camp of a good friend. And that's where the trouble begins.

Davis Fields left the military a broken man. His trust was broken and he is filled with anger and distrust. He decides to help a friend open up a mine that his friend inherited, hoping that time away in seclusion will help him get his head right. And then a tragic event occurs and he finds Sunny, a woman he had hoped to start a relationship with a year ago, in the middle of it. Now Sunny and Davis are running for their lives in the middle of Alaska. They are being hunted by unscrupulous and deadly trained assassins, and they don't even know why.

This is a quick and easy read that I read in one sitting. The action was fast-paced and flowed so smoothly I just couldn't put the book down. I loved reading about tricks and tips to survive in the wilderness as the couple race for safety in the woods of Alaska. The flashbacks to a wedding the year before, and their instant connection there, provides context for how their relationship could deepen so quickly. Otherwise it would have seemed rushed and insincere. Their chemistry was great and the way they both acknowledged each other's strengths during their escape, and then eventual investigation into the mystery, was refreshing to read.

I don't want to give too much away, but I figured out the mystery pretty early on and it seemed odd to me that two hyper intelligent people with as much training as they had didn't figure it out until later in the book. It was the only part that didn't ring true for me. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book and if you're looking for a quick mystery/thriller book with a little bit of romance sprinkled in, I recommend you read this one.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kate Rock Book Tours and the author. All opinions are my own.

I found this one to be driven by action, setting and circumstance. That’s not to say the characters weren’t interesting themselves: they were. But the Alaskan badlands were a powerful, vividly written antagonist.

A lone adventurer, Sunny Rebel has taken to the wilderness in search of purpose and clarity. Davis Fields, a tattered military roughneck, is on a similar quest. When their unlikely paths converge, solitude must yield to cooperation; and two damaged survivors must reconcile a simmering attraction amidst merciless terrain.

Beset by nature’s obstacles, Sunny and Davis were obliged to be reactive should they hope to live through their shared ordeal. A REBEL’S TRUST is a page-flipping romantic thriller unlike anything I’ve ever read.

This is a book where things *happen.* While Davis and Sunny learn to trust one another under intense duress, quandary becomes quagmire as Alaska’s ecological arsenal unloads on the intrepid survivalists.

Take a deep breath. This gripping romantic adventure has no time for spice, jam-packed as it is with danger, near-misses and heartfelt teamwork in the tundra.

3.4 stars.

There’s a lot I should like about this book. The woman is strong and confident and knows what she’s doing. The guy treats her with respect and doesn’t condescend to her.

But frankly, I was bored. For an adventure book where they’re running for their lives, I was yawning. I was determined to read and not DNF but ended up skimming after 50 %. It was just not that interesting and I wasn’t engaged.

What a story! After being swindled by her former business partner/boyfriend, Sunny focuses on her social media channel of her solo adventures.
Davis is trying to figure out what he wants to do after he left Stryker Security Force. When a tragedy happened, he encounters Sunny, whom he met a year ago, who witnessed what happened. While eluding the men chasing them in the middle of Alaska, the two must uncover the truth about what happened and why they are being pursued.
This is a quick, easy read that is suspenseful and action-packed.

A Rebel’s Trust

Ms Blackard writes an interesting story full of danger and intrigue based in the wilds of Alaska. Davis Fields is ex military special ops living in the wilderness of Alaska helping a friend with his mining. Sunny Rebel has an adventure social media following. When she heads into the Alaska wilderness, she didn’t count on witnessing her friends murder and being on the run with Davis as they evade the evil men responsible for their friends death will Davis and Sunny survive their adventure?

Wow! If you're looking for a book with breathtaking action and suspense with a great romance, then A Rebel's Trust will be the perfect choice for you. The characters, Sunny and Davis, both have to overcome mental/emotional things for their relationship to work, and do so while they're being chased through the Alaskan bush with men tracking them in order to kill them. Be prepared to get muddy and wet as author Sara Blackard makes her readers feel like they're right there in all of the action. I highly recommend this clean romantic suspense. I would definitely read more of this series and more of Sara Blackard's other books as well.
I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written book.

Sunny Rebel is a fearless warrior – pitting herself against the challenges of her state of Alaska. Now she is beginning a solo adventure – a trek through the Fortymile Mining District north of Chicken in the Alaskan Interior where anything can, and does go wrong.
Davis Fields, a retired vet with horrible memories, undeserved guilt, and nightmares, has been helping a friend, Justin, by working in his Alaskan gold camp.
Just as Sunny was approaching the gold camp, a shot rang out and her friend, Justin, lay bleeding out in the snow of his camp. Now Sunny and Davis are running for their lives. Their predators are better armed and even have the assistance of a helicopter. But why? What is happening?
Sara, this is another delightful book filled with very likable characters and a well-planned plot. You have molded your story around forgiveness, love, and watching God provide during your darkest moments. Thank you for my ARC – I loved reading it and am gladly writing this review to encourage others to try your work. This is the 19th book of yours that I have read and I have loved every one of them. Keep up the great work!

Okay, so now I have a new favorite book by Sara Blackard! Davis and Sunny are both in dark places when they unexpectedly meet up once again.
They both have a strong attraction to one another, but they have no idea the situation they will find themselves in together, the hardships that will bring their love to light, the help they will get from each other as they struggle for their very lives.

This book is full of adventure, mystery, romance, family loyalty, God's guidance and protection, and forgiveness toward others and one's self. The story is a page turner and inspirational, showing how God can bring people out of the dark places they impose upon themselves.

The author skillfully creates wonderful characters, an exciting story, and insights into PTSD. Another well written book from Ms. Blackard.

I received this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Sunny Rebel and Davis Fields previously met at Sunny’s sister’s wedding. (Read Lena’s story in Honoring Lena, a Stryker Security Force novel.)
Sunny currently goes on solo adventures in Alaska, which she posts to her YouTube channel and social media accounts; she has a growing fan base. Her newest adventure will be in the Fortymile Mining District in the Alaskan interior.
Davis is on leave from Stryker, not intending to return; he formerly served in Special Forces. His sister, Piper, is married to Rafe, his best friend. (Read their story in Discovering Rafe, another Stryker Security Force novel.) Currently, Davis is working in the Fortymile Mining District on a gold mine with a military buddy, Justin. Justin inherited the mine from his grandfather.
Of course, Sunny and Davis meet up. And, of course, Ms. Blackard writes of intrigue, danger, and the marvelous Alaskan wilderness. And, naturally, Sunny and Davis end up together. But to find out the details, you will have to read it!

This was such a great book! I loved all the action that kept me turning pages and needing to know what would happen next. I liked watching the relationship between Sunny and Davis unfold. His nickname for her was so sweet without being cheesy. I liked how they were both able to lean on each other. It wasn’t just Davis being the hero all the time, Sunny had her hero moments too. And there were definitely some swoon worthy kisses! This is the second book I’ve read by Sara Blackard and I’m looking forward to reading more!

One of the best books I’ve read this summer! This is an action filled adventure watching another Rebel fall in love. You are going to be rooting for Sunny and Davis as they escape murderers trekking across Alaska. They are trying to figure out who is after them and why their friend was murdered! At the same time they both realize that they need to quit fighting their feeling for each other and go for it! Great read!

A Rebel’s Trust is a riveting addition to the Alaskan Rebels series! I love the Rebel family! I have been waiting excitedly for Sunny’s story, and I was not disappointed! This book drew me in from the beginning and kept me captivated throughout. An action-packed plot, wonderful characters, beautifully drawn settings, and sweet romance combine to make an absorbing, satisfying reading experience. Thanks to Ms. Blackard’s excellent storytelling skill and detailed descriptions, you can almost feel the branches slapping you in the face in the pelting rain as you run for your life through the Alaskan wild with Sunny and Davis. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which left me longing for the next Rebel sibling’s story.

Sunny Rebel’s ex boyfriend slash business partner left her high and dry. So she started her own blog and YouTube about her hiking adventures. What she walks into during her latest adventure just might end her for good.
She witnesses one of her friends Justin get murdered just as she was about to surprise him. But in steps Davis Fields an ex special force guy whom she had been in a fake relationship with for her sister Lena’s wedding previously. Davis had ghosted her after the wedding so she hadn’t had any contact with him up until now! Let’s just say he had a hold of one wildcat when he grabbed her.
Those two are trying to escape the bad guys that just gunned down Justin. This writer definitely takes you through the rough terrain of Alaska. The trials that these two went through was unbelievable but they are both fighters. Davis has a problem with PTSD and Sunny has a hard time trusting anyone. But together they make a great team!

The Rebels are such an amazing family. Sunny is a loner who heads off to the Alaskan wilderness to centre herself.

However, the wilderness brings an unforseen reunion and very unexpected events.
Try to not read this in one sitting.

Swoony kisses.

I loved that she incorporated characters from Stryker, because that was the series that hooked me on her books.

The fourth book of Sara Blackard’s Alaskan Rebels is full of suspense with a little romance thrown in.
Sunnival “Sunny” Rebel plans a solo hide in the Alaska wild after being betrayed by her boyfriend and business partner.

Davis Fields is spending the summer helping his friend Justen Freedom work his mine. Dealing with PTSD from his time in the military Davis is trying to decide his next step.

Trouble arises sending Davis and Sunny running for their lives. It’s a heart stopping journey almost from the beginning. You’ll not be disappointed.

I have been looking forward to Sunny's story for a while. I remember liking her character in the brief times we saw her in Gunner's book. This is a fun addition to the Rebel family collection, and now I king of want to go back and reread them closer together (and in order, haha).

Sunny and Davis are both fun characters. I enjoyed getting to know them both a little better, and seeing them on this crazy Alaskan adventure. The plot was also unique and had some exciting surprise twists!

Sunniva (Sunny) Rebel was an interesting one. Especially after reading the previous books in the series, Sunny's story was a unique look at the Rebel family. She's different. She doesn't feel the call of the military the way much of her family does, instead she seeks adventure in her own way. She's a bit of a romantic at heart, and we see in the story that she sees her big-heart and rosy outlook as a bit of a weakness, while everyone else sees it as something precious that should be protected and nurtured. I loved seeing how her positive and hopeful attitude brought a healing effect to those around her. And don't let her fool you, this lady's claimed Denali multiple times and her sense of adventure knows no bounds. She's an expert wilderness survivalist and guide.

Davis Fields is former special forces and a member of Stryker's crew. He sort of has a chip on his shoulder and a secret that has haunted him for months. Since returning to the states, he is struggling to return to civilian life, so deciding to join a buddy in the wilderness, he never expects to find the one person who seemed to shake up his world. Neither did he ever expect to find her in so much trouble.

The story is an action-packed adventure, with a steamy (but clean) romance. I enjoyed their story, and loved getting to see them work to overcome their past and current challenges. I did feel as if the story was a little rushed in places, and that it could have benefited from a bit more depth. I know, I tend to be picky about my reads, but this one has a lot going for it, but just didn't seem to quite reach the full potential. If you love a quick read that delivers a grumpy/sunshine romance with a dose of suspense, this is a great series to read! I loved it as a quick read, and there is a few mentions of God and prayer, but as a Christian read, I think it was a bit light on the faith content. Especially with some of the topics and situations the characters faced, this would have been a perfect time to point people to the healing truth found in scripture.

There were also a couple of scenes between the halfway point and the end that came off a little coincidental and either rushed, or lacked the attention and depth that could have really given the story a boost. It wasn't really that anything was too impossibly believable, but that something would happen, the characters would be forced to rethink their plan, then suddenly the problem was fixed and everything went back to business as usual, I guess? This is something a lot of stories do, but if the characters had actually gotten the chance to learn something from the situation itself other than the brief *ah,ha!* bits that weren't really related to the situation itself, but was just something that came up as their struggles continued, that added attention to detail and personal growth for the characters could have made for a stronger read.

The faith was also a big part of this that a little bit more could have gone a long way. I'm aware that not all readers enjoy Christian faith content, but as a Christian Fiction book, it's Christian readers who are often reading (and being ministered to) through these books. The beautiful message of Jesus and His love for us as well as the encouragement that can only come from Him and the reading of His Word can make all the difference in some books, and with the heavier and darkness that some of the characters in this series carry, it would be a perfect time to shine a little of that light in a dark and weary world.

As it is, I ended up giving it about a 3.5 star rating. I enjoyed the characters and story, but sadly I probably won't remember a lot of what happens along the way. Still, for those more interested in a fun read with a good balance of romance and action this is a great one, and I recommend the whole series. Each book has been an enjoyable read so far, and I'm looking to read the next one soon.

I love how all the characters from the 'current era' (current era because there are two differetn time periods in which Sara Blackards books fall, most are in the modern time, but some are in an historical era, if you are curious read the Vestige in Time series in has both eras in =D) can appear at anytime in any book, with or without referring to previous books, and it just works and it doesn't feel like you are missing anything huge if you didn't read the previous books because it often has some context to how the characters know each other that it makes sense in that book to have them there doing whatever they are doing. While reading the other books may help explain more how the characters are connected to each other, you don't have too.
Like in this book, Davis who is helping a buddy at his mine calls his brother-on-law. But that's not all the information given even if you would simply assume they know each other from that sentence, Sara has added a bit of how and why they know each other and not just one reason if there is more. His brother-in-law isn't that, his is also his friend from the military and he is part of the team at Stryker Security where Davis was working before helping his other friend from the military who has invited him to come and help at his mine. (I can't remember if they knew each other before the military.) And then the Rebels family, of whom a lot were in the military and are friends with the team from Stryker, and have worked together on various personal and professional missions, and Sunny is their little sister who also got paired up with Davis on one such personal mission. So when the crew of Stryker and the Rebel siblings shows up close to the end, and in a few other places, it makes sense for various reasons.
1. They are personally involved with the main characters.
2. They are all ex-military and these guys messed with one of their own.
3. None of them were just going to stand by and have evil threaten their family (biological or not) and the rest of the world.
It is super cool, and my mom got the whole geeking out about it in person this afternoon. I just had to try and remember which books she has read and that she probably doesn't remember them as well as I do even though I read most of them more than 3 years ago, except A Rebel's Promise which I read last year.

Definitly one of my favourite authors ever.
I really need to start from the beginning and read all of them again... =D

This is book four in The Alaskan Rebels Series and it is Sunny and Davis story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Sunny's boyfriend and partner stole all of her money and equipment leaving her betrayed, angry and heartbroken she decides that she needs to get away so she decided to do a solo adventure through the mining district in Alaska and was due to set off the next day and after her experience with her ex trust was a big issue for her so she decided to rely on herself and film her adventure for her social media. Davis needed solitude after his last deployment left him angry and with PTSD so he was helping his friend with a good kind in Alaska and now loneliness was starting to get to him but he needed to get is anger under control before he could go home but when Justin his friend who owns the mine started getting harassed Davis hoped that things didn't get ugly. When Sunny witnessed Justin being murdered she had to run because she now has a target on her back and it is Davis that finds her but now they are being hunted and will have to stay alive long enough to get help. Sunny and Davis had great chemistry between them and also some history but would they get the happy ending that they both deserve. Wow this book took you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I cried with everything that they were going through and I couldn't put this book down and read it in one sitting because the storyline pulled you in right from the start and kept your attention throughout and the twists and turns along with danger, suspense, death, evil, hope, love and difficult situations is what had you turning the pages as it was so addictive. Sara Blackard is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention while holding your breath and hanging on to the edge of your seat and I definitely recommend you read this book and other's by her and you will not be disappointed.

I Voluntarily Reviewed a Copy of This Book.
