Beth wishes she were more like Molly, who doesn't mind if boys hide dead bugs in her desk, and who tells big kids to get lost if they tease her. Beth is flattered when Molly invites her to stay overnight at her house in the country; when the girls get lost, Beth is the one who gets them home.
Since the publication of Fancy Nancy, Jane O'Connor's closet now boasts so many boas, tiaras, and sparkly ensembles that sometimes friends do not recognize her on the street. She still resides (that's a fancy word for lives) in New York City with her family and their canine companion, Arrow. --from the publisher's website
7/9/2019 ~ A friendship between two girls, one White & one Black (and the book was written in the 1990s!). I appreciated that Beth grew through the story as she realized she had courage too, something she'd been looking up to Molly for. It's always good to come to understand that our heroes might struggle with something too.
4th Grade Review "I rated this book 5 stars because: It tesh you to be brave or you don't have to be brave time. My favorite part: went they get lost in the cron flise." RC
This is a really well written book about a little girl looking up to a classmate thinking that she is never scared of anything and what she thinks about her if she seems scared? And then getting to leave her house for an overnight stay with the other girl! So the main little girl learns that Molly isn't so brave at times either and it's okay to be 'strong and brave' when you need to be but scared and a little lonely when you need to be too! Just a really nice book about friendships!
I just read this to my First grade intern class, and it was such a great follow-up story to the previous day's lesson on admiring someone. The story is about the characteristics we admire in friends, such as bravery, and how true friends rely on one another and can find that they themselves possess those favorable traits.
This is a really cute book for students who are moving up to chapter books, right before they start reading full chapter books. This is a great book about best friends, who are encouraging each other to be brave.
Molly the Brave and Me (Paperback) by Jane O'Connor in a broad sense the book is about learning about new experiences and friendship, good early reader
Molly the Brave and Me could be used as a tool to teach that some people act a certain way but can still have the same thinking as you. Many people can put on a front and be totally different.
