Ignacia is a black cat who feels sad because everyone is afraid of her and shoos her away because they are superstitious. She wants a home and someone to love her so she draws a picture and knocks on a door behind a big gate. A little girl answers and Ignacia shows her the beautiful picture and tells her all the things she can do for her. It is a cute story with characters in the pictures looking like puppets with big eyes.

The black kitten is about a stray kitten that is trying to find a home. Every house the kitten goes to, the owners freak out and think the black kitten is bad luck. The kitten starts to feel bad about himself until he comes to a young girl's house. The young girl already has two black kitten. The young girl welcomes the black kitten into her home and the kitten is finally content. This will be a cute children's picture book to do as a read aloud. Children will want to find out what will happen to the kitten, if he will ever find a home.

This book will not wow you, but it tells a classic story that most students need to constantly hear. The story is about a black kitten that is constantly shunned and ignored, but the kitten is eventually brought in to a home by a young girl. She's not bothered nor does she listen to people's superstitions about black cats. It's like she hasn't been corrupted by society.

The visuals are drawn in a unique way, but it's nothing earth shattering compared to what's already out there.

In the classroom, I'd use this to teach the theme of tolerance and acceptance. It's definitely a silly way to teach that lesson, but the book gets its point across clearly for children. It's definitely good to read for 5 year olds and lower. I'd also use this book to emphasize the point that tolerance is important to ALL cultures.

I found this book on childrenslibrary.org.
