Trapped! At night! In a room full of dinosaur fossils! My first Gaspard and Lisa adventure - loved it! This would actually have been a dream come true for me when I was very young; there were two years when I read almost nothing but dino books and comics! The idea of being able to see fossils in a museum overnight would have been my idea of real fun!
The Mixed-Up Files of Mr. Gaspard... I don't know what it is museums that inspire such fantasies of being locked in in them overnight (it's the high arched ceilings isn't it. and the dinosaur fossils and thoughts of dead things), but it is important to indulge in such fantasies when you are young and go on field trips to museums as a child. Or in this case, as a child dog. A puppy, if you will.
Delighted to discover that this book is narrated by Gaspard (I thought it would be written in third-person for some reason), about him and his best friend Lisa, and also that they are very naughty (I feel like naughtiness is undervalued in a certain strain of children's books, where misadventures are more the result of circumstance than misbehaviour.)
My son loves this book. He had it memorized at 20 months old. It has classic dinosaur bones, and some funny things that happen to the two 'animal' that live as people and go on a trip to the museum of natural history
