I tried but I just couldn’t get into this book. Almost the entire first 71% is inner monologue. I love kink, but the idea of needles in my penis is not something I would enjoy experiencing or reading about. I was listening to the audio and didn’t care for the narrator. Life’s too short to continue reading something that just doesn’t work for you. This is my second book by this author and I’m pretty sure it will be my last. I didn’t leave a rating because even though it wasn’t for me it’s well written.

This author of this kinky story is new to me. It’s the start of a series built in the universe of a former series, Kink Files that starts with The Kiss. The characters from that series feature prominently as friends of the main character in this book. That’s stated in the blurb so is not a surprise, but In my opinion, a reader would definitely benefit from having read that series first to be familiar with the cast of characters and their relationship dynamics.

Basil is an aesthetician who owns and runs Bear Essentials, a spa and treatment center catering to LGBTQ persons. He doesn’t sleep around and is presented as a mature character who spends most of his time developing his business. He was formerly active in the BDSM scene and still attends demos in a local club, but he has his own collection of kink toys and is happy by himself. The main thrust of the story revolves around Basil, his beauty business, and the “private business” he gets up to during his relaxation time. Of note, his private business is described in explicit detail early in the story (with the machine noted in the blurb) before any romantic relationship develops.

When he did get together with Dylan, in the latter chapters of the book, I became confused because their first date night started with Dylan doing a scene with someone else in the kink club that’s the subject of the other series. Apparently, Basil and Dylan knew each other previously from there, but I found it odd that he’d take Basil to see a demo of him dominating another person as their first official date.

In fact, when Dylan was first introduced in this story it was in a scene with other characters who had similar names like Darius and Darren. Listening to an audio version made it difficult to follow the story with the similar sounding names and the Southern voice the narrator gave all the characters. My opinion of the narrator greatly influenced my focus, I admit. I absolutely did not like his style, his vocalizations, or the accents. Basil’s soft and sing-song voice, more than the others, distracted and irritated me to no end. (No way did that voice come from the main character on the cover of this book.)

After their night out at the kink club, when the sub is dismissed, Dylan and Basil finally have sex, spend the night together, discuss their attraction, and lay the foundation for moving in together. Then their story abruptly ends. The last chapter of the book is from a different character’s POV and serves as an intro to the next book.

Now that I’ve written all this out, it’s evident, even to me, that one really should read the first series if for no other reason than to meet the characters and get involved in their world. And if you are going to read this, don't get the audio.

o With all the mentions of side characters, I thought this was written after the Kink Files series. However, it seems to be taking place somewhere in-between. I don't know the correct reading order so one would know who all the side characters are without confusion

The bad
- Dylan found out about Basil's preferences in bed by spying on him (he even mentioned how convenient it was that Basil wore headphones so he couldn't hear him!), which is a great breach of Basil's privacy. But it gets worse. When Basil was at work one day, Dylan searched his room looking for his toy stash, and then proceeded to look through that stash to find out more about Basil's preferences. What the actual fuck? This is harassment and just plain stalking behavior, and it was only perceived as okay here because Basil liked Dylan too - which was unknown yet at that moment in time! Moreover, Basil was Dylan's boss, which makes this even more inappropriate
- Mel acted incredibly irresponsibly and crossed one of a sub's hard limits. Then they thought it was a good idea to apologize by visiting the sub at home, after acquiring the address by looking through the patient data stored at the salon. Does nobody in this book get any privacy whatsoever? Is everyone a stalker?
- Dylan's idea of a 'date' was to bring Basil to the kink club, so Basil could watch a scene between Dylan and someone else (someone who was also breaking rules with his invasive behavior without Basil's consent). Basil was jealous and, understandably, hurt
- This book was hardly about the relationship between the main characters. There were many side characters from related series (which would probably have been impossible to keep track of, had I not already read the Kink Files books), the only scene was between Dylan and a side character, and the entire friendship between Dylan and Basil had already been formed off-page before the book began. There was very little Dylan-and-Basil time left in the book (and none with any of the kinky stuff Dylan worked so hard to learn about with his stalking)


This book really didn't work for me. Aside from the very problematic way their relationship started (stalking and a very strange date), it didn't feel like there was all that much of a connection between the main characters on-page. At least I now know every single detail about Basil's business decisions for his salon. I assume the next book is about Mel, which I will not read. Mel did not leave a good impression.

This was basically a story about two people who are close friend, who had lived together, work together and then they end up hooking up. It’s got some kink, which was interesting and enjoyable to read.

I did find it a little to repetitive at times, I think this came down to it’s being very descriptive throughout as he ended up talking about the same thing in the same amount of details several times (though this style of writing did make the sex scenes very vivid). I also didn’t really feel the connection between the character, mostly I do believe this was because their backstory was already something played out and we were plopped into the end game with a here and now look at what they are to each other, but even as it was happening, Basil spoke of it not being the same. With that I also found it really weird that he had all these friends in the kink world and was surprised by it—ok, not surprised but yeah not knowing it. it didn’t really feel authentic in that aspect, though I did like how the club scene was laid out.

I didn’t really appreciate how they pushed us into the next book, and I’m not talking about the four sentences at the end of the book, which felt pointless, but the way the whole scene with Mel and Blue was portrayed. It didn’t sit right with me. Where they just going to let Blue get away with it? why didn’t another Dom calm him down before letting him leave, why rip Mel apart for a threat, and if I got that wrong and it wasn’t a threat, why didn’t one of the others speak up, seems they were more in the wrong then Mel was. And I’m not saying they weren’t but placing the whole scene’s blame firmly on them just felt real wrong and clearly a very heavy-handed push to get us readers to, well want to read the next book, I guess.

This is a series set in an existing world and I think I would have benefited from reading the other series first, not that I was lost as it’s a very simplistic romance but I do feel like I was short-changed the secondary characters.

Audio narration was fine. I felt they weren’t great at differentiating the characters and it got a little confusing, and there were long pauses in places that made the sentence sound odd, but didn’t really ruin my enjoyment, just a noted point.

Sweet, steamy, kinky and an adorable hairless cat - what more could you want!

I loved this book and am so excited about this series! This series is set in the same world as the Kink Files which means we get to see all the wonderful people we met in that series along with a whole load of new and awesome characters (while I would definitely suggest reading the Kink Files series because it rocks, you don’t need to to enjoy this series). Baring It All is about Basil and introduces Bear Essentials and the people who work there. I absolutely adored the idea of Bear Essentials and Basil was the perfect person to create it. You really felt how passionate he was about creating a safe space for people when they’re at, often, their most vulnerable. That sweetness and gentleness carried through his whole life and had me just wanting to cuddle him about 70% of the book (I bet he would give awesome cuddles).

I don’t want to give spoilers but wow the heat was off the charts. I love how DG Carothers writes kink. It’s honest and open and real. We got all kinds of fun treats in this one (phew, Basil knows how to have some fun!). Even the trickier kinks are done beautifully. I don’t think I’ve ever read such amazing and also fluffy needle play (why is that not more of a thing???). I think though what always really makes the sex scenes in this author’s work so good is that there is a genuineness and honesty about the way they’re written. As a result, what you get is phenomenal.

Have I mentioned the characters yet? You get a host of characters who feel like real people and never simply blend into a nondescript mass of secondary characters. Each new person you meet is an individual and has their own personality so that they actually add to the story and help make a world that feels very real. Is everybody perfect, no, but that’s what makes them so much better. Their imperfections make them human and relatable and add to the world DG Carothers creates.

I cannot wait until the next book comes out (I’m looking at you Mel!). I know this is going to be a series I will reread over and over again and strongly encourage others to give it a try!

Basil is convinced that he has everything he needs to be happy. At least for the time being. He has a thriving business, is surrounded by people he can trust and rely on, and although his erotic life is rather poor and his needs are huge, he is able to make his alone time satisfying. That's why someone else has to take matters into their own hands, show Basil what he really needs in his monotonous life and take him on a date that he will never forget.

"Baring It All" is the first volume in "Bear Essentials", a new series by D.G. Carothers. The thing that immediately catches the reader's eye is the way the story is conducted. It should be noted that "Baring It All" shows the details of the main character's life, such as the company, employees and friends, beloved pet and previous experiences. In fact, the form in which the beginning of the novel is written is far from what we are used to in ordinary romances, which I find very interesting. Even more so that thanks to all this we get to know not only the main character, but also his world. It may sound a bit strange, but the reader starts to love Bear Essentials as if they themselves were part of this company. But is it really that surprising? After all every major city should have a place like Bear Essentials. I am glad that D.G. Carothers gives us the opportunity to learn so much about Bear Essentials, its story and its importance to the LGBTQIA+ community.

As for the story itself, in my opinion, "Baring It All" shows how important for the characters, their chance for a relationship and a common future is disclosure. Both Basil and his, at first only potential, better half have their own needs, their own big and small sexual kinks that they don't talk about openly. However, the thing is that without some openness and the aforementioned disclosure, there is no chance for a successful and satisfying relationship. In "Baring It All" we see that our main character, Basil, is stuck in a certain stagnation and does not even try to shake it off. Luckily, someone shows up urging him to act and take the risk of revealing his sexual secrets... Although, is it really so simple? Ha! See for yourself!

I believe it is equally important in this case that D.G. Carothers emphasizes the importance of friendship and trust when it comes to showing the other person who we are in all our glory. I liked it very much, the more so that this part of the story was woven using many other threads, for example the need to see the chemistry between two people. Let's be honest, we are used to the fact that the characters fall in love right away, or if not during their first meeting, then during the second or third one. In "Baring It All" things are quite different. Before the said chemistry and passion, the most important feelings between characters are friendship and closeness devoid of sexual undertones. To be honest, "Baring It All" is probably the first novel I've read in which the transition from friends to lovers is so literal and perfectly portrayed. Undoubtedly, this is another detail that distinguishes "Baring It All" from other novels and is definitely a huge advantage of this story.

Finally, a few words about the thing that always excites me in the novels by D.G. Carothers – kinks and problems less frequently presented in literature. I can't imagine that something so important to me could be missing in "Baring It All". It's just impossible. I am very pleased with what the author has given me in this novel. It is not about shocking, all the kinks and problems on the one hand show the readers something new, pull some of them out of their comfort zone, show them the world. On the other hand, the author shows people who love a given kink that they are noticed, they aren't overlooked, they can also enjoy literature, erotics, romance. Due to the fact that D.G. Carothers reaches for subjects and kinks less often presented in literature, each novel by this author is an important lesson for me, which I simply love.

All in all, "Baring It All" is a really good, interesting, well-structured novel that forms the basis for a series that will delight its readers. This first volume is addictive, it makes us fall in love with the characters and is a great encouragement to follow the characters and read other D.G. Carothers's works. "Baring It All" is your latest must-read.

Posiada doskonale prosperujący biznes, jest otoczony przez osoby, którym może ufać i na których może polegać i chociaż jego życie erotyczne jest raczej ubogie, a potrzeby ogromne, to jednak jest w stanie urozmaicić sobie samotnie spędzane chwile. Właśnie dlatego to ktoś inny musi wziąć sprawy w swoje ręce, pokazać Basilowi czego tak naprawdę potrzebuje w swoim monotonnym życiu i zabrać go na randkę, której mężczyzna nigdy nie zapomni.

„Baring It All” jest pierwszym tomem „Bear Essentials”, nowej serii D.G. Carothers. Tym, co od razu rzuca nam się w oczy czytelnikowi jest sposób, w jaki prowadzona jest ta historia. Należy bowiem zwrócić uwagę na fakt, iż „Baring It All” bardzo dokładnie ukazuje istotne dla głównego bohatera szczegóły z jego życia, jak chociażby firma, pracownicy i przyjaciele, ukochany pupil oraz dotychczasowe doświadczenia. Tak naprawdę początek powieści daleki jest od formy, do jakiej przywykliśmy w zwykłych romansach, co uważam za bardzo interesujące. Cieszę się więc, że D.G. Carothers daje nam okazję poznać Bear Essentials, jego historię oraz kluczowe znaczenie dla społeczności LGBTQIA+.

Co się zaś tyczy samej historii, moim zdaniem w „Baring It All” duże znaczenie dla bohaterów, ich szansy na związek oraz wspólną przyszłość ma „odsłonięcie się”. Zarówno Basil, jak i jego, z początku tylko potencjalna, druga połowa mają swoje potrzeby, swoje duże i małe seksualne słabości, o których nie mówią otwarcie. Rzecz jednak w tym, że bez pewnej otwartości i wspomnianego odsłonięcia się, nie ma mowy o udanym i satysfakcjonującym związku. W „Baring It All” widzimy, że nasz główny bohater, Basil, tkwi w pewnej stagnacji i nawet nie próbuje się z niej otrząsnąć. Na szczęście pojawia się ktoś, kto nakłania go do działania i podjęcia ryzyka, jakim jest zdradzenie swoich seksualnych sekretów… Chociaż? Czy aby na pewno tak to możemy opisać? Ha! Przekonajcie się sami!

Co równie istotne w tym wypadku, D.G. Carothers podkreśla wagę przyjaźni i zaufania, gdy w grę wchodzi pokazanie drugiej osobie siebie w całej okazałości. Bardzo mi się to spodobało, tym bardziej, że ten wątek został upleciony z wielu innych, jak chociażby z dostrzeżenia chemii między sobą i inną osobą. Zazwyczaj nawykliśmy do tego, że wielki płomień miłości rozpala się od razu, a jeśli nie przy pierwszym to przy drugim, trzecim spotkaniu. W „Baring It All” sprawy wyglądają zgoła inaczej. Zanim pojawi się chemia, gorąca namiętność, główne miejsce zajmuje przyjaźń, bliskość pozbawiona seksualnych podtekstów. Jeśli mam być szczera, do tej pory nie czytałam powieści, w której przejście od przyjaciół do kochanków byłoby tak dosłowne i doskonale ukazane. Niewątpliwie jest to kolejny szczegół, który odróżnia „Baring It All” od innych powieści i zdecydowanie stanowi ogromny jej plus.

Na koniec kilka słów o tym, co zawsze ekscytuje mnie w powieściach D.G. Carothers, czyli sięganie po rzadziej przedstawiane w literaturze kinki i problemy. Dla mnie tego po prostu nie mogło zabraknąć w „Baring It All” i nie zabrakło. Jestem bardzo zadowolona z tego, co sprezentował mi autor w tej powieści. Nie chodzi bowiem o to, aby szokować, ale z jednej strony ukazać coś nowego, wyciągnąć czytelnika ze strefy komfortu, pokazać mu świat, zaś z drugiej strony pokazać osobom, które w danym kinku gustują, że są zauważane, nie są pomijane, że one również mogą cieszyć się literaturą, erotyką, romansem. Dzięki temu, że D.G. Carothers sięga po tematy i kinki rzadziej ukazywane w literaturze, każda powieść tego autora jest dla mnie ważną lekcją, co po prostu kocham.

Podsumowując, „Baring It All” to naprawdę dobra, interesująca, dobrze zbudowana powieść, która stanowi podstawę dla serii, która rozkocha czytelników do szaleństwa. Już ten pierwszy tom jest uzależniający, rozkochuje nas w bohaterach i jest zachętą do dalszego śledzenia losów bohaterów D.G. Carothers. „Baring It All” to Wasz najnowszy must-read.

This is book one of the Bear Essentials series and the action is all focused on a unique business called Bear Essentials, in Hartstone, which cares for all of your skin, hair and care essentials from head to toe, whoever you are. Basil Paddington set the business up when had problems trying to get hair removed from certain hard to reach areas of his own. It took him a number of years getting qualified himself due mainly to how he looked and to then set up his business with his friends Mel, Dylan and Bran. He started with a small shop and then expanded, until finally having his own multi storey building built, to include every type of hair and skin needs. Basil has a cat called Arnold who he spoils and some good friends, but he has given up on love, finding it difficult to find someone that would put up with his excessive working hours, but mainly all of his sexual kinks, He has found it hard to find someone who matches his sexual needs and has healthy sex life which he satisfies by using his expensive toys at home, to see to his needs every day. When one of his friends, who is also an employee of some two years, seems down and turns up at his door, he allows them to stay in his spare room as he has in the past and enjoys a few nights in with him, cuddling up on his sofa. Dylan still doesn’t tell him what is wrong, but manages to get Basil to agree to go out to their local sex club where Dylan is doing a scene. Talking to some of his other friends who are also staff, about Dylan because he is worried, soon has them asking how he hasn’t realised that he has been flirting with him for two years and wants him! Seems Basil is completely out of practise and couldn’t even notice what was under his own nose. It is only going out for a walk and meal the day before that gets him to realise that he may feel something for Dylan himself. That leaves him strangely nervous as he gets ready for the night out to the club and what he gets to see Dylan doing with the seemingly over active Blu, certainly gets him worked up and leads to an understanding that he might have finally met his match! Some parts of the story are very explicit, but are well written and for the LGBQTIA+ audience and any wishing to learn more. A definitely cuddly main character with a heart of gold, who makes his business open for all and has staff who are welcoming and well trained to help others, even in their most intimate areas. Loved the premise of the story and the setup of the business and the way it was run with such compassion. I look forward to more of the series, just wish they were somewhat longer. First time reading this author and I enjoyed reading this story. It’s the first book in a new series by this author. It was fast paced and a quick read novella. The characters have a history together as friends and co-workers and realize their mutual attraction and similar interests/kinks. I have not read the Kink Files series that shares the same town but I might very well have to after reading this book.

Basil is the co-owner of Bear Essentials that provides a variety of spa services to their clientele and known for their customer service and support. He’s attentive and sensitive to his customers but doesn’t take time for himself or his personal life. Dylan works at the spa but has been friends with Basil for several years having lived with him at one point when he needed a place to stay and having dinner with him on a regular basis. There is a lot of buildup to the characters finally realizing and acting on their attraction. I appreciated that the author focused a good amount on the friendship between these two. There is definitely a fair amount of steam in this book. I definitely wanted to see more of their relationship but maybe they will appear in later books in the series. There are some interesting characters in this book which I am guessing will be featured in future books in the series and the set up for Mel and Blu seems like a very interesting dynamic. Also definitely note the content warnings before reading as there is needle play, sounding and machines that are used within the book. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and fair review.

A little kinky; I liked it!

Basil owns a spa specializing the kind of personal grooming that men want. While his clientele was largely gay men, he eventually realizes that he wants to help anyone that needs a place to feel safe especially trans men and women.

As far as I know this is the first audiobook I’ve listened to performed by Christopher Rourke. I really liked his voice; it’s nice and mellow with distinctive accents for each character. His Scottish accent is great.

This is the first book I’ve read that explores sounding (I had to look it up), needle play and f*ck machines. While some of the acts made me cringe a bit, to each his own. Basil is a kind and caring character. He started his business to help people get personal services that traditional spas wouldn’t perform.

When Dillon and Basil finally get together things really get hot. 🔥🔥🔥 It was sweet that Dillon learned about what Basil liked even before they hooked up.

This isn’t a long book, coming in at about 3 hours and it’s the beginning of a new series. The book spends a bit of time setting up the series and I’m definitely interested in reading or listening to more in the series. The teaser for the next book was quite enticing!

I listened to the audiobook of Bear Essentials and loved how it was narrated and produced. For a book full of kink, hot sex, and fascinating characters, the audiobook needed a narrator with range and depth. Christopher Rourke met all those needs and gave a fantastic audio performance that was perfect this book.

Baring It All is the first book in the Bear Essentials series, but it is a spin off from another series: the Kink Files, which I haven’t read yet. The relationship between the two main characters was already established, and I felt like I was missing some of the backstory. However, once the romance was established, it was easy to follow along and become sucked into the story. Basil is the owner of Bear Essentials, a spa business that does it all and does it well. I love the concept of Bear Essentials and it was fascinating to learn more about the business and the interactions between the employees and customers.

D.G. Carothers is a very vivid writer, who puts in details and fully fleshes out the scene. This was fantastic when it came to the sex scenes in the book. The scenes were hot, and written with an authenticity and realism that I don’t normally see in many romance books. I really enjoyed all the kink that was portrayed in the book and thought it meshed really well with the characters.

D.G. Carothers created a masterpiece that not only highlights relationships but never lets up on the steam factor. I’m glad I didn’t read it in public. Holy heck. Normally with that level of steam factor I don’t see a balance with the relationship and storyline, but this author managed it perfectly.

The world building was vivid and detailed. I love D.G. Carothers’ other series Kink Files, so I was excited to see this is set in the same world. It not only fit perfectly in it but expanded on it flawlessly.

The plot is engaging and well thought out. BDSM and kink books are among my favorite to read and this is one of my favorite authors for it. Even if something isn’t my kink, D.G. Carothers writes it in a way that I appreciate. It’s a respectful, accurate, and incredibly hot representation of kink.

I loved the characters and definitely enjoyed the chemistry between them. The secondary characters blew me away and I can’t wait for more of their stories! I’m curious to see what happens because if there’s one thing I’ve learned with this author it’s that I’ll never be able to predict how a story or series goes.

What a refreshing read 4.5* Audio review

Not having read/listened to any books by this author, I was hooked from the first moment.

Basil fills a niche market by opening up a complete grooming service (Bear Essentials) for men, women, trans, gay or straight, non-binary, anyone who needs personal and close grooming and who aren't accepted by other beauty practitioners.

Personally, I'm not too fond of cats, but I think Arnold and his showers could even wheedle into my heart.

I love kink, and more importantly, I love myself some BDSM, which we have here. I can't wait to read more of this series.

Well narrated, clean and clear. Christopher Rourke was a joy to listen to. I sped up to 1.30 on BookFunnel, which is typical for me.

D.G. Carothers created a very high steam, super sweet story in Baring It All. This new series introduces Bear Essentials, where people of the binary and beyond can get beauty services, head to toe.

The first book in this series focuses on Basil, the owner of Bear Essentials. His close friendship with employee Dylan becomes quite a lot more. I adored the cuddling and platonic affection shown in the beginning of the book. Their friendship was at the core of everything and it was lovely to see. This very kink positive book showcases some very steamy scenes that you should definitely try reading at least once or twice.


There was a really good balance of relationship, kink, and secondary characters here. I felt like I got to know the MC's and their friends. Enough that I'm very much looking forward to the next book. Bonus, there's a hairless cat named Arnold and I'm a little in love with him.

I understood and could sympathize with Basil's reluctance to even look for someone to date. While he definitely has built a great company that filled a gap, his personal life was pretty bare. I liked how Dylan worked his way into getting Basil to date him, but I felt like the change in Basil was faster than I expected considering the buildup beforehand. It was something totally different to see Dylan show Basil his kink interests like he did, and I'm glad it helped Basil open up more to Dylan and trust him on a new level.

I wanted to like this story more than I did. Part of me wonders if I may have enjoyed it more had I read the Kink Files books before this one even though, for the most part, it read like a standalone. That said, I'm intrigued enough that I will probably read the next book in this series when it comes out as well as the Kink Files books to see if it makes a difference.

Short and sexy novella! Southern bear Basil Paddington is the owner of Bear Essentials, providing hair and spa treatments for men. He’s not unhappy being single but his employee and intermittent flatmate, Dylan, has other ideas. While this is a spin-off of AG/DG Carothers’ Kink Files series, I didn’t feel out of my depth with all the characters. I loved the scenes set in Bear Essentials and the focus on the body issues cis- and transmen have. I would have been pretty happy for the whole story to be set there. Despite the large cast, the story really narrows down to focus on Basil and Dylan, their interactions, and a dash of BDSM. Given how short the story is (91 pg, 3 hrs on audio), there isn’t much time to do more and I found myself wanting a juicier plot. Given the lack of backstory, I didn’t feel I got to know Dylan. What boosted this for me was Christopher Rourke’s audio narration. His voice was so soothing and expressive, I could listen to him all day. I’ll look forward to more audiobooks in the series!

I enjoyed this kinky and steamy novella. My first by this author.

Basil owns and runs Bear Essentials, a spa created for men or people not comfortable at salon’s catering to cis women. He’s busy, sometimes too busy for a relationship. He’s dedicated his life to making others happy, unfortunately just not himself.

When Dylan, his friend/colleague and ex-roommate crashes with him for a while things take a turn. A very kinky and lovely turn.

I love a friends-to-lovers story. And these two fit the bill quite well. They are sweet and very loving.

There was a little too much setup for the workplace/reason for the Bear Essentials existing that sometimes took me out of the story, but I love the idea of it, and will definitely give the second book a go.

I found only one flaw in this gem by D. G. Garothers, and that is it's length!
I love reading about kink, and I love reading about people who break the mold. Basil is no stereotypical gay man, in fact he is no stereotypical anything. He is large and hairy with an immaculately kept beard and a penchant for bejewelled but plugs. He built his business on the idea of helping customers who are otherwise left to their own devices, and he runs it with genuine care for both employees and customers alike. But who cares for Basil? Somewhere along the line he has concluded that what he wants and needs isn't on offer, so he's better off taking care of himself.

Trying to shrug off my assumptions and expectations in order to see Basil as himself was a very healthy challenge for my mind, which has apparently turned alarmingly stolid. I adore books that make me think, and this short story did just that. It made me do other things as well, though I won't go into detail. Next book, please!

Amazing start of a series. This story is so different, a unique approach to kink and with a unique character - Basil. I love that he was this big bear with a great sense of self-care, but also had such a soft heart. He was so sweet and caring about others, he had his life focused on helping and making a difference, and so did Dylan. They came together and they completed each other so well.

My only issue was about Basil being so oblivious to Dylan's feelings. ...The way that they interacted, cuddling on the couch, and Dylan asking to sleep in his bed with him, didn't convince me that he had never thought of having anything else than friendship with Dylan up until that moment. And how did he not know Dylan was into kink? ...

Basil is so oblivious to his relationship with Dylan. Even his employees know there's something there, silly Basil. Dylan has worked for Basil for a few years, he even lived with Basil for awhile. When they were roommates, Dylan learned some things about Basil and takes that knowledge to learn how to be a perfect sexual partner for Basil, for whenever that time came. Basil is something else and boy is he a horny one! Their whole situation is unconventional but they are perfect for each other.

Fireworks

First, I need an Arnold in my life. I had no idea what I was missing until this book. Second, I’m so happy we got to see some treasured faces again. Third, and most important, Basil and Dylan are lovely together. I really liked how their relationship unfolded and deepened. Although, I think they were always in one and some people *cough Basil* didn’t realize it. But, when these two let go: “Because you’re beautiful inside and out. Because I wanted to be the name you shouted in ecstasy. Because I wanted to be the one to give you the bliss you sought.” Nngh, so smoking hot and sweet, I could gobble them both up. I’m super looking forward to the next book as the next couple will be a handful and I want to know more.

I unfortunately don’t really know how I feel about this story and while the narration was done well the voices didn’t seem to match the characters in my head and the exaggerated use of accents didn’t help. A co-workers outburst seemed to give Dylan the courage to show Basil how he feels and once that happens they both jump in with both feet. I think if I maybe knew the characters more it would helps but I felt like they just suddenly changed their lives and it didn’t quite sit well with me. Maybe it would have worked better for my not in audio form but I can’t be sure.

Steamy and kinky!

Basil has it all, including a sex machine at home. What else could he possibly need? When his friend/old roommate/co-worker Dylan spends a week at his home in his bed, he finds he might be missing something afterall. Waking up next to a warm body, even platonically, is enough to keep him happy, but when his own kink is shared by Dylan, things get hot and messy in the bedroom.

Basil and Dylan were perfect together. I really enjoyed the size issue that was brought up and how that all played out, as well as other kinks that aren't as popular or as known.

I listened to the audio version of this book and I think it’s is one I would have enjoyed more reading instead of listening. The narrator was ok but just didn’t seem to fit the characters or story for me. Basil and Dylan go from friends to lovers. Basil had basically given up on love and finding someone who would accept him and his kinks but Dylan helps show him that he’s the perfect guy to fulfill all of his needs. I am interested in seeing where this series goes. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of the audio book.

I enjoyed getting to know Basil and Dylan in this super hot romance. Learning about Basil and how he came up with the idea for his business, Bear Essentials, added another layer to the character. He’s been so busy building and growing his business that he gave up on finding that special man for himself. D. G. Carothers has a way of pulling you into the story so your front and center. How they weaved in characters from the Kink Files to flow so smoothly was impressive. Be prepared for when Dylan and Basil finally come together, wow! I can’t wait to start Mel’s story!

Overall, I thought that this was an ok book. D.G. Carothers is a new author to me and I am intrigued to continue reading their work. Dylan did some things that I didn't think were morally right but I know his heart was in the right place. I didn't expect the walls around Basil's to crumbling as fast as they did but the heart wants what it wants. While this may have not gotten a 4 or 5 star from me, I would recommend giving it a shot.

I had the opportunity to listen to the audio of this book, excellent! The story was excellent. Basil is the owner of Bear Essentials, a business that focuses on the personal needs of all people, be it man or woman. He thinks he's content in life until he realizes that Dillon has feelings for him. Then it gets hot and steamy. The narrator, Christopher Rourke has an amazing voice and did a great job in distinguishing the voices.

This book was not what I thought it would be. I did the audio and even though it wasn't what I was expecting it was still worth the listen. This is a single POV story which I haven't done in awhile but it didn't feel like i was missing out since there is no angst. This book is straight forward as in terms of the characters getting together because no outside forces play any part in causing issues. Will I continue with the series??? yeah probably.

It was really refreshing to find a character who is actually content with the way he has set up his single life. The kinks were interesting and well explained. However I really disliked some of the things Dylan did like looking through Basil's things while he wasn't home and taking him to a club to watch Dylan participate in a scene with Blu, which Basil had no prior knowledge of. I haven't read any of the other series of related books but it does work as a standalone.

This is the first time I’ve read this author and I will be reading more of their work!! The characters are well developed and the storyline is heartfelt. Basil is just going through the motions in life. He is fulfilled with his job but never goes out because he just doesn’t make time. Until one day Dylan makes him open his eyes. Dylan is Basil’s employee/roommate sometimes. There is a little bit of kink and plenty of steamy scenes. I just adore this book!!

This was a very different style of writing that I'm not used to. It was written in first-person or it's almost like he's telling the story but there's background information that the narrator is telling you about as well. I did get lost a few times but I'm glad I stuck it out ended up being a happy story. I hope the other characters get their own story as well.
