Cashing In: The Corruption Kings

After cardiologist John Brown is incarcerated in a private prison in Miami, he and his cellmates learn firsthand how the private prison system works in Florida. Meanwhile, Nicole Rodriguez and her team at the Miami Post start digging into the prison industry, and the leadership of Homestead Correctional Facility. Soon, they discover a complex web of corruption that runs deeper than they could have ever expected. As John and Nicole's paths cross, the dark underbelly of the private prison system begins to come to light, and they come face to face with a group of powerful players who will stop at nothing to reach their goals. Cashing In

The plot description promised much but it just didn’t deliver.
It was written like a newspaper article rather than a story.
Dialogue and actions are described rather than experienced by the characters.
The writing was not good and the ending gave no satisfaction either.
Im sorry i bothered with this book.

The premise of Cashing In is intriguing. It certainly made me consider the current prison system which is dangerously flawed in comparison with the private prison system which, in an effort to make money, cuts corners at the expense of the imprisoned. The book seemed too short and the ending too abrupt. The characters were many, ranging from a cardiologist who becomes addicted to painkillers after an accident to the many other inmates and their captors, the families of the inmates, and the fourth estate with several journalists investigating the private prison system in Florida. Due to the shortness of the book and the multiple characters, I felt they weren’t as fully developed as they could have been.

Fast-paced and entertaining!

Really enjoyed this fictional account of the private prison system and the implications and personal stories woven within the entertaining plot. The author clearly has embedded his local geographic and legal knowledge to make this a quick, well-researched novel. Looking forward to the next one!

I enjoyed the book. I thought the plot was interesting and the characters were intriguing. Even though the book is fiction it made me think about the criminal justice system and question if it is always fair in its sentencing of people. The book also made me wonder what really happens behind those prison walls.

I tend to shy away from legal and crime thrillers, but this one sounded really interesting. I liked that while it was fictional, it felt extremely realistic. You can tell the author thoroughly researched while writing the book.

I received a gifted copy of this book via the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
