It was high summer and a travelling fun-fair had come to the village... Peter Rabbit and Benjamin were forbidden to attend. But even the best-behaved rabbit can't keep away from a fun-fair; and Peter is far from being the best-behaved rabbit. With Benjamin at his side, Peter sneaks into the fair where a roller-coaster ride of an adventure begins... When Peter finds himself scooped up by a rather grumpy little girl and separated from his cousin he is helpless and very afraid. It takes the determined bravery of Benjamin to rescue Peter from the frightening hurly-burly of shouting stallholders and whirling rides.

Aww, this was adorable. I loved the bunnies (though I was a bit annoyed that they would just throw their mums advice away, then again I can imagine, such a funfair is just too much fun to pass by), but I hated that girl. What a spoiled, selfish brat she was. :| I am glad that the dad really took matters into his hands and told her off. Absolutely gorgeous illustrations. They really brought the book to life and I loved the book even more thanks to them.
Is there no end to Emma Thompson's talent??!!! I love this Peter Rabbit series! I am so glad that she has taken the charge and decided to continue this timeless series. Bravo!!!
I saw her on Jimmy Fallon and she talked about this book. I really like Emma Thompson! I was excited when it came through the library and there were no holds on it! I checked it out and listened to the audio on the way to work. It is so adorable. Loved the audio book being read by Emma Thompson. I really cant' wait to have kids and this will be a must have book!! :)
Okay, folks, The Tale of Peter Rabbit was not the start of a "series," aside from it's being the first of Beatrix Potter's little books. She wrote books about different characters. Yes, Peter is part of The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, but he's not the lead character. And then Potter moved on to hedgehogs, ducks, and the rest.
As I stated in my review of The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit, developing this as a "series" turns it into a formula, the same way as was done for poor "Curious George," with those "Curious George Goes To..." books. They're still about George, but they are just the same plot, over and over in different settings. Or all those dreadful, dumbed down Disney desecrations of "Winnie the Pooh."
Hey, Emma Thompson, you're a really good writer. How about "The Adventures of Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail?" The good little girls could break out of their sweet Victorian goodness and have some new, original adventures of their own. That at least would be different--and I'm sure it would be a heckuva lot better than those dreadful "Peppa Pig" books.
I read the first two books in this series and While I don’t remember much about them, I apparently liked them enough to put this on my To Read list. But to me this was just okay. If it weren’t for the fact that it was written by Emma Thompson (whom I adore as an actress) and that it capitalizes on the Peter Rabbit brand, I don't know that anyone would take any special not of this book. There’s not really any reflection of Beatrix Potter in the story or illustrations.
The plot follows Peter and cousin Benjamin who, despite mother’s orders, sneak off to the county fair where they get into and out of some trouble. I liked the setting of a fair, but there was nothing special or particularly memorable or remarkable about the story. The illustrations are colorful and attractive, but not exceptional. Overall, this was just okay to me. A solid book, but not a standout.
This trio of new Peter Rabbit stories by Emma Thompson is such a delight. This story of the two little rabbits who sneak away to the fair is totally adorable. Eleanor Taylor's illustrations are simply perfect.
Of the three further adventures that Ms. Thompson has penned, this is my favourite... although still not quite at the same level as the classics. But that is to be expected, and this tale is cherish-able in its own right.
Another installment from Ms. Thompson, and it's charming as well. Peter claimed by a pudgy girl as a prize at the fun fair? Love it! Once again, it came with an audio CD with Emma Thompson narrating. Brilliant writing and illustrating.
Charming tale. I don't know how I ended up reading a children's story— oh right, it's because Dame Emma wrote it— but it warmed my soul, just as a well written and beautifully illustrated story would do to anyone, of any age. ♡♡♡♡♡
This story teaches students not to disobey rules. However, Peter ends up staring out the window at the fair which makes me wonder if he really did feel remorse.
This storybook had a wonderful plot that involved Peter Rabbit getting himself into trouble, and having to find a way out of the mess he had made. The plot was well thought out and had a great moral at the end of the story that teaches children, and even adults a lesson. The illustrations were done by Eleanor Taylor who has been illustrating children's storybooks for the past fifteen years. Her Illustrations were absolutely gorgeous. The images are wonderful to look at and follow the story line well.
I was a little skeptical about these new "inspired by" Peter Rabbit tales, but I was pleasantly surprised by this story. The artwork is gorgeous and evocative of Beatrix Potter's style without being an exact copycat. The story was a lot of fun and really felt like the kind of antics Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny would get into. The writing was also similar to the originals, but definitely along the lines of the shorter and simpler tales rather than the more complex ones. Overall, a lovely story I'm sure we will reread many times over the years. I haven't listened to the accompanying CD yet, but will report back once I do.
Yet another children's book I got to read in the queue - at least they put us somewhere with short books to read. While Peter Rabbit still looks gorgeous it's not a series I'm nostalgic about. At least not enough to be excited about new stories written by another author, even if it is Emma Thompson. But I am glad to see that they are being kept alive for a new generation of children that hopefully go back and read the originals.
When I first heard that Emma Thompson was doing the Peter Rabbit books I was quite concerned but after having read her story, I have been quite impressed with her writing and also with the illustrators interpretation of both text and the historical aspect. I always enjoy unusual words or expressions in children's literature, like - "A Fair attracts the feckless and shifty," I would recommend this book and am happy it is now in my collection.
Emma Thompson successfully captures the tone of Beatrix Potter in this new tale. However, as Peter Rabbit stories have never been my favourites, I did not enjoy this book. Good news for P Rabbit fans is that they probably will.
Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, being ever so curious, find themselves in a difficult situation when they attend a fair that they weren't supposed to. Emma Thompson assembles a wonderfully fun tale that thrills and excites. The book also features an audio recording read by her as well!
Emma has done a masterful job of creating a new story in the same style of the beloved originals. The hard back has a cd of her reading is which is fabulous. See her interview on Jimmy Fallon where she talks about writing these books. Very cool.
This has been a favorite of all my children through the years. The illustrations are darling and we love the charming humor of this newer Peter Rabbit tale. Emma Thompson and Eleanor Taylor are a winning team in capturing the charm of Beatrix Potter's original works.
This is a charming update of the classic Beatrix Potter tales, which I of course grew up with. I also got to meet Emma at a B&N signing of this book so I may be a little biased...
Lovely, lovely book! It's written by Emma Thompson, who also perfectly reads the audio for this beautifully illustrated book based on the original tales of Beatrix Potter. More!
