I am the author of the action/adventure/scifi novel Scarlet Angel as well as several published short stories in various anthologies, including Twisted History, Twisted Nightmares and the forthcoming Room 427, which I also helped produce.

As I mentioned above, I'm a huge fan of reading, just as much as writing. I grew up on stories like the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now Legends), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Wheel of time, Darkover, Rama, LOTR... and more.

The beginning felt hopeful and promising - it seemed like the story could develop into something gripping. And to be fair, the core idea behind the book is good.
Unfortunately, the execution didn’t work for me.

The story felt more like a movie script than an actual novel. Everything is described in extreme detail — every action, every moment — leaving almost no space for imagination. Instead of being immersed, I felt like I was watching scenes play out mechanically, rather than actively engaging with the story.
As the book went on, I found myself listening just to get to the end. There were no characters I truly rooted for, no emotional connection strong enough to keep me invested.

In the end, while the concept had potential, the overload of detail and lack of imaginative breathing room took away from the experience. For me, Scarlet Angel reads more like a transcript of a film than a story meant to live in the reader’s mind.

I stepped out of my usual comfort zone to read this book, and I'm glad I did. I have a soft spot for badass thrillers, and this fit the bill.

Scarlett, a tough but vulnerable woman who loves her adoptive family, goes on a quest to rediscover the life she had prior to the carefree one she has now, one full of danger and betrayal (and one she has no memory of). Along the way, she gains both allies and enemies, and all while barreling toward a action-packed climax.

The book was well-written and very exciting. I definitely think fans of the genre will enjoy this book.

I found Scarlet Angel to be impossible to NOT get pulled into. C.A. Wilke wove a web that was never too revealing too soon. Scarlet was discovering her past at the same time as the reader.

There is plenty of action but never a skimping on plot. The characters are all very distinct while the relationships between them are just enough to make the reader care. Since I don't want to give anything away to anyone who has yet to read it, I cannot go into any details on...well...anything. It's a great read and very difficult to put down. I highly recommend it!

I really, really enjoyed this one. It's been lurking on my Kindle for a while, but when curiosity won and I started reading, I just couldn't stop.

Scarlett's lost memories returning are just the beginning - starting a chain reaction of events that forces her to both remember and rediscover her past, while changing from the fairly ordinary woman into the kickass heroine she'll have to be to survive.

While not overpowered, she's capable enough to get out of some tricky situations, using a combination of memories, contacts and, increasingly, her combat training. Yet he always seems to get pinned to a wall with some muscled man cutting off her air. Well, everyone has a weak spot.

Plenty of action - the clothed kind, though Scarlett's no nun - and a swift-moving storyline kept me riveted from start to finish. This would make a brilliant movie and I definitely hope there's more of Scarlett's escapades to come.

My biggest complaint about this book is that the sequel's not out yet.

Scarlet Angel is a very fast moving and exciting adventure. For a debut novel the author proves a very adept at telling an interesting story with strong characters and creative plot developments. I would class this as light science-fiction, near-future and I could see it as a movie. For me I thought the chapters were a little short but they did not break up or hinder the flow of the story. As I already said a very impressive debut and what I hope is the first in a series of novels as the ending implies and these characters warrant.

Scarlet Angel by C.A. Wilke is the kind of story where one should hold on for dear life with little concern or notice for what transpires on the periphery. For the parts where it delivers the blistering, action-based pace that maintains unrestrained reader compulsion to keep turning pages, it works rather well. Overall, I found this a compelling story I’m glad to have picked up and recommend.
