A savvy young music exec for rockstar records, Hannah love has a glamorous apartment and a tight pack of equly fine friends. But luxury and loyalty can't protect her from a broken heart, courtesy of her super-rich fiance.
I read the first eighty pages or so of this book and then skimmed the rest. The characters were simply too vapid and simultaneously outrageously successful in their careers to be remotely believable as real human beings in their mid twenties. This book simply tried too hard to be escapist chick lit to even succeed in being a good story. It was predictable, tired, and I was bored to tears by the constant talk about outfits, shoes, and all things materialistic to even read the whole thing closely after awhile. I had kept it in my car to read throughout the last month, and frankly, I was relieved to close the book and be done with it. I wish I'd liked it, as I love books about competitive dance, cheerleading, gymnastics, etc, but it was simply pretty shitty, and I'm amazed it was published at all (and in hardcover? Really??). Only one star.
Hate to say it, but I think part of the reason I could not really relate to this book is because I am not black.
But there were things I could relate to---the cheerleading part, which is why I picked it up in the first place, and the main character's relationship woes and not having time for everything.
I didn't like though, that all the girls in this book are wildly successful in their 20's---the main character works in the music industry. I just couldn't buy it, or really even suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy it.
I read the whole thing, but it was for the most part unrelatable and I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you just want to read it for the inside scoop on professional cheerleading.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's jammed packed, with hot guys, cute shoes, and killer outfits. It's also well written and quite funny at parts. VERY entertaining, and perfect for summer. I sure hope she writes another and soon.
