I supposedly got this book (as well the other books in this series by Caruso and Rabaiotti) "for my kids," but it's a fun and informative book for any age. Take this section on sea cucumbers:

Preferring to avoid confrontations when possible, sea cucumbers' unique collagenous tissues enable them to liquefy their entire body, allow them to escape into small crevices where predators can't follow, and quickly stiffen their body so they can't be extraced. If they are captured, some species, like the black sea cucumber (Holothuria forskali) can discharge sticky and toxic threads known as Cuvierian tubules from their anuses that can ensnare any would-be predator and potentially be fatal to some marine life.

That, my friends, is quality party conversation material in my world.

Believe it or snot, mucus is important in the survival of many a critter. Next time someone sneezes on you, you’ll appreciate the gift you received the more-so after reading this book.

Although this does have the appearance and possibly the title of a book you might expect to be aimed at younger readers, it does contain a lot of scientific terms.

Mucus and other secretions are the theme. They are a lot more useful than you might expect. I would recommend this book to any science and nature enthusiast. There is a glossary at the back that most people will need.

Funny as well as informative. A great companion to the other two books in the series.
