Hey, you’re awesome! And I’m Alexio Fairfax, Internet gazillionaire!! Ready to spill my SUCCESS SECRETS for your TRANSFORMATION!!! I used to be just like you … chained to a cubicle, living off deep-fried pigs’ feet, and trying to fill the void by racking up credit card debt buying antique collectible rototillers I didn’t really need. I was fat, I was broke, and I hadn’t practiced my bassoon in months . Then EVERYTHING CHANGED . And I want to tell you how! Get ready to get RICH, SKINNY, and SUPER SPIRITUAL! All at once! In only 24 hours!! Wow!!! THIS BOOK IS A PARODY. IT IS NOT A REAL SELF-HELP BOOK. DO NOT TRY ANY OF THIS AT HOME. OR AT WORK. OR ESPECIALLY ON THE WING OF A MOVING AIRPLANE. What?? Who put all that in? This book will change your life , and it came out spectacular , even though, sure, I was honestly a little distracted during the writing process, what with my beloved pet dolphin going missing and my income streams crashing and my ex-mentor/friendly competitor going all nemesis on me… But all that drama is barely in here. This is almost entirely solid gold actionable content that you will not find anywhere else. (That, I guarantee .) See for yourself! Even the free sample, the mere table of contents , will BLOW. YOUR. MIND. Get it now.
You know how you keep reading piles and piles and piles of mystery series, and most of them are, like, moderately okay … at least, there weren’t too many typos … and your eyes aren’t actually bleeding …
… but then … THEN … every so often … WOW, you’re just smitten.
The style is fabulous, the people are hilarious, the action is fantastic and terrifying and gut-wrenching and you just want to shout, THIS! This right here! Why can’t they all be like THIS?
The next time you find a series like that, could you PLEASE TELL ME?
I mean, please tell this Bill Alive author guy?
Because otherwise, he’s just going to keep trying to write them.
Which is super fun. See that smile? He’s clearly enjoying himself.
But still. Once in awhile, the guy needs to see how it’s done. What’s your favorite series? He’ll probably love it too.
I receive requests to review books periodically and usually my standard answer is that I don’t accept books to review (because I don’t) I simply review the books that I read (which I do). However, on this occasion I made an exception, because the blurb made me laugh, and if that does, well you’ve got to hope the rest of the book will too.
Meet Alexio Fairfax, Internet gazillionaire, who’s willing to share his 102 Patented Success Secrets with you in his 24-hour challenge on his world-famous blog! His main problem is that his dolphin has disappeared, but worry not as he has a band of oddball bloggers to help him out.
This is a very well written, funny parody of those self-help books that claim to fix everything that’s apparently wrong in your life. Alexio calls in help from some dubious bloggers including shamelessly ripping off the work of one. I loved the tweets, dodgy tips and the comments, particularly those from TreyTheTroll.
I rarely laugh at books that claim to be funny but did with this one which must say something, if only about my sense of humour! Recommended to all who like to be entertained and aren’t expecting this to be a proper self-help book. For Real!
I was offered a free review copy of this book, so I thought that I'd give it a go, especially as I really enjoy the empath detective books by this author. Unfortunately I just didn't 'get' this book, probably because it is a parody of self help books and blogs, but as I have never read either of these things, I probably missed a lot, because I just wasn't sure what a real self help blog or book actually looks like! So, although I did find some of the bits quite funny (lose weight by taking off your shoes) most of it went straight over my head. I'm sure that if you did read real self help blogs, then this would be a lot funnier. So sorry to the author, but I'll be waiting for the next empath detective book.
Disclaimer: Nothing in this book is likely to make you richer, skinnier, or more spiritual. (It's a parody!) However, the book is very likely to give you several hours of amusement and lots of chuckles. And it's not just a hilarious set of fake articles about how to get rich, skinny, and spiritual - there is an actual plot, as we follow the ridiculous and unfortunate adventures of the self-proclaimed "internet gazillionaire" scrambling to throw together enough articles that he can then put them into a book to be published in just a few days, all while dealing with a dolphin disaster and managing to make a powerful enemy in the process. If you're in the mood for some lighthearted entertainment that can easily be read in quick bite-sized segments, look no further!
This relatively short book is composed of interviews, tweets, comments and has an eclectic range of text. There is a dolphin with her own fenced in bay, a drone hunt, augmented reality glasses and a solar watch that reminds you to get your daily fix of sunlight. There are numerous characters who flit in and out while a 24hr marathon (spread over three days) will teach how to lose weight, become rich and achieve spirituality. This parody is spot on promising lots but delivering nothing, just like many self help promotions - especially online ones. Ideally suited for the internet generation. I received a complimentary copy of the story and I'm submitting this review on my own volition
I'm having trouble reading but this book made me feel good. Probably because it's a bit diferent. Sparkle and TreyTheTroll are some of my favorites. Not to mention Synergy (it warmed me how that tread went). If you need a light and feel good read you should give it a try.
Back in the 1930s humorist James Thurber lampooned the self-help books of his day in a series of essays that were collected in his book Let Your Mind Alone! And Other More or Less Inspirational Pieces. The self-help gurus of today communicate differently -- via tweets, blogs, and webinars -- but are no less ripe for parody. This brisk and engagingly silly read "promises" everything except a better sex life, while spoofing those who promise they can make you thin and/or rich and/or achieve mindfulness.
Rich, Skinny, and Super Spiritual was such a hoot! This is truly the author's sense of humor in a nutshell (well, not quite a nutshell since this is a nearly 200-page book), as well as one of its finest because it's a parody.
I honestly can't quite decide which part I liked the most (read: which part had me laughing the most): Alexio's tweet update, his tendency to change the guest blog post's titles into click-baiter's, the comment section (made even funnier thanks to TreyTheTroll), the guest bloggers and their side stories, or Synergy's part in the story.
Overall, a great read if you're needing a few laughs on all things blogging, marketing, 24-hour challenges, guest posts, and FREE webinars. An excellent parody! ~ 5 stars
I wish I had half the energy this author has! He reminds me of Robin Williams: funny, energetic, and all over the place. We live in a world where businesses make their money off of our self-doubts. What average person doesn't think he/she should be richer, skinnier, and more spiritual? What a fun parody to read!
This book is for those who like the roller coaster. Hold on to your seats because Mr. Alive is controlling the speed, and he's doing all he can to make it fun. Starts out crazy and snowballs from there. Hearing voices in your head? Stay with it, don't lose a beat, and enjoy this nutty ride with Alexio and friends, and a dolphin? Yes, well it's about transforming your entire life into...into, what? I'm rooting for Deborah, and you'll find out why. Run Debbie, run!
