Shortlisted for a Selfies Children's Book Award 2022 Two birds try to outdo each other in their efforts to build the best nest. After disaster strikes, a wise owl helps them realize that having the biggest, fanciest nest isn't the key to happiness. A funny, heartwarming tale. The moral of the story is that working together achieves better results, and also that helping others brings true happiness.

Super cute and good moral. Two birds, Peter and Paul, find themselves competing for who has the best nest, continuously one upping each other until one day they both lose their respective nests in a storm. They are taken in by a sweet and wise owl who doesn’t have the best of everything but is a kind and caring and happy owl. They then join forces and build a modest home together where they can ‘pay it forward’ and take in other animals abandoned by storms. In the end they decide that was the best nest of all.

Have you ever had a friend that one-upped you on everything? If so, you will relate to this tale of Roosting Rivalry.
This is a comical, rhyming story about neighbouring birds, Peter and Paul. Each bird works hard to out-do the other on the extravagancies of his nest. Their rivalry takes us on a journey with themes of ego, pride and jealousy as they engage in an impractical feat.
Valuable lessons are learned as their competition ends in disaster. Their neighbour, an owl, finds them in their moment of despair. Without judgment, he helps the birds by bringing them to his modest home until they can recover. The owl’s kindness nurtures a profound change in Peter and Paul.
As Peter and Paul abandon their fancy goods for old threads, they learn about true happiness by working together and giving back to their community. Afterall, the best nest is one you can share.
The illustrations are fun and colourful.
I was really entertained by this amusing story, and I know that other parents and children will be too. I recommend this moral tale for children 4-8.
Peter and Paul are each on a mission to create the best nest, and the constructs keep getting more elaborate. It seems that no matter how much they build, though, the birds aren’t truly happy.
Ah, a rhyming book with rhythm that makes sense. My favorite kind. This book has a simple moral, but the humor and characters disguise it just the right amount and make it a fun read. I might bring this one along to my next kindergarten read aloud, along with some nest-building supplies for a craft project :)
When two of the birds we have heard of from childhood, Peter and Paul, get competing with each other to build the best nest, what do we get? A hilarious compilation of outlandish constructions, all replete with castles, moats, and swinging hammocks. But are they strong enough to withstand the vagaries of a devastating storm?
Peter and Paul are brought to their senses by a wise owl who teaches them what a home should be in this beautiful book filled with wit, fun, humour and the power of kindness.
I loved this colourful, cute bird story, which honestly is not all that much different than some human stories. Peter and Paul (Birds) are competing over which one can build and upgrade the best nest. In the end they find out that there are far more things more important than having the best of the best.
Such a fun story about a pair of birds, Peter and Paul, that were competitive neighbors that wouldn't stop until they built the best house ever. No spoilers but I have to say that I really loved the ending of the book. I highly recommend this book to kids of all ages. I read this book for the #PictureThis2022 reading event.
Cute story of competing birds who learn that bigger and fancier is not always better. They learn to be okay with less and to be kind and supportive of others.
