A little mischief maker gets his comeuppance, as this book deals with the consequences of silly pranks and random acts of disobedience. We know Alexander isn't bad just unruly as many small boys can be. It is a wonder that everybody just laughs at his antics instead of scolding and punishing him for it. Having him learn the wrong of his ways by way of an accident that would proved dangerous or fatal in real life doesn't seem like good parenting to me.
But this is about Alexander not the adults around him and the boy manages to come off as being foolish rather than mean. All in all, a mildly cautionary tale for the tots accompanied by simple but effective drawings of the boy and his made-up friend.
