I was on the fence in rating this. I was tempted to give it a 2-star but I felt that just wasn't fair because the book is really just a short novella so I had to take that into consideration. I think the fact that it was so short kept me from connecting with any of the characters and obviously everything was just presented and solved so dang fast. Again, only 61 pages so what would I expect. I have the next two books in the series and those are actual novels so hopefully I will enjoy those a little bit more. I'm giving this 3 stars because it does have me interested enough to pick up the next one.

I am going through this author’s series so fast and I love them all! This book was very short but we got a good introduction to Goldie and her change of life. I like how she’s such a city girl and has to now deal with life in the countryside.
The cast of characters include a hot detective (can’t miss this), two elderly people and a pet wombat, which is quite a formula in all of these books, but still a winning feature.
I definitely had moments where I was laughing at Goldie’s antics and at the other people’s naive comments.
I am really curious to see how the series will continue.

This book was put together in a very slapdash way. There was a lot of things that happened off page as if the writer just wanted to get to the conclusion of the story without putting much effort into it. The main character stated she was a practicing witch to someone and then later she didn't even know she had powers. So what was she doing previously as a practicing witch? The main character lost her keys and all of her stuff was in the car. How did she get makeup to put on after her shower. Plus it was never mentioned that she got her keys back. There is the matter of the builder and his tent. At first I didn't know why there was a random tent on her property, then I was stated that Nat, the builder, would camp out there a lot when working on jobs because it was far away from his house. Wouldn't a man who camped out there frequently know how to secure his tent against wind? Goldie said that she woke up and the tent was gone. Then later she says she woke up in the tent. I really liked the idea of the story, but I wish the author had fleshed it out more and thought through the scenes more.

I love a cozy paranormal and this Short Story is the beginning of a great series. Broom Mates which is technically Book 1 in the series was originally released in an anthology "Seven Pets for Seven Witches". Here we meet Goldie Bloom , after discovering she has inherited an old home on the Gold Coast waterfront, she packs up her things and moves into new home, with her new roomate, Persickle. I don't want to give away too much, but I love Persnickle!
Goldie stumbles upon a dead body her first day in town, a town by the way in which coffee is illegal due to an ancient by law. WHAT?!!!! That's what Goldie says too. I loved this short story and looking forward to reading all the books in this fun cozy paranormal series.

Goldie Bloom moves to the Gold Coast after catching her boyfriend and boss making out with another woman in his office, and also inheriting a house from her uncle.

The next morning, after waking up. She stumbles over a body, she later learns she was the intended victim.

This story introduces us to the main characters in the series. It is the first time that I have been disappointed in one of Morgana Best stories. It was simply too short to be developed. The murderer was announced without any investigating happening.

Other than that. It has somewhat developed characters, and some humor. It does have potential for some good stories in the future.

Goldie works in real estate, but when things go bad for her, she quits. Luckily she inherits a house from an uncle, and is able to move far away to start a new life, but there is one condition...she must live in that house for one year with a room mate, whom she has never met.The room mate named Persnickle, already lives there. Goldie knows she is a witch but doesnt know how to do spells...yet. She meets the sexy detective Max Grayson, when her builder is murdered before she arrives. She also meets her new "familiar" and discovers that she can see and communicate with ghosts when he is around her. This is a fun story in a great series. The characters are fun and well written.

I absolutely LOVE Morgana Best's books/series!!!!

This is the first book (well, actually it's a novella, not a full novel) in the Sea Witch Cozy Mysteries series. However, the short length covers all the bases. We meet the main character, Goldie Bloom, who has inherited a home on the Gold Coast. The inheritance has one condition only and that is: Goldie has to live with a roommate named Persnickle. Persnickle turns out to be a wombat and becomes Goldie's familiar. Persnickle allows Goldie to see and hear ghosts.

Once a body is found by Goldie on her first day at her new home, the author cleverly segues into a plot on Goldie's life. And thus begins a totally delightful book/series.

A taster that leaves you wanting more.

This is only 77% of the page count but it has everything, a great plot and characters that you start bonding with before the final page. A plot of murder that involves a broken relationship, and inheritance and witchcraft.
Whilst the characters are full, colourful and can only get better with each subsequent read. The heroine is confident but not strictly a 'people' person and she doesn't suffer fools gladly or quietly.
Finding her lover had not only cheated on her but now wanted to transfer her to another office jade accepting her inheritance easy. However once she arrived it seemed that all that could go wrong did. Especially when she stumbles over a dead body. A group of seniors, a killer on the loose, a familiar and witch powers plus a handsome detective. Will her new ghost seeing powers help her get the killer?

What fun! This is like book 0.5 in the series and although I had read it in a compilation, it is fun reading it again without having to hunt through the other book. I just love Goldie and her pet wombat, but I wouldn't last an hour in a place where coffee is illegal! The murder and attempted murder get solved in record time-probably because her coffee machine arrived!
Think I'm going to reread the others now.

Goldie inherits a house from an uncle she barely remembers. It comes at a good time since her boyfriend just told her he was relocating her to an office near there and he was in love with another woman. The morning after she moved in, she literally stumbles over a dead man. The local police suspect her. She works with some unusual characters to clear her name. And, I forgot to mention that she's a witch.

Relaxing Read

Definitely a novella - wish it had been longer. I enjoyed getting to know Goldie and look forward to learning more about them in future books. Oh! I also thoroughly like the little Aussie "dictionary" in the front of the book and finding out I use some of them - glad to learn that "bugger," is not a nasty word as I was told when I use it (just as your description provided). Hehehe.

An impactful, witch & wizard thriller. Goldie Bloom just inherited from a relative. The house comes with a roommate, Persnickle. The morning after she arrives at her new home, she discovers a dead body. It appears that life will be interesting for Goldie.

There's a hint of romance that may develop as the series continues. This story is a fun, quick read.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

. Broom mates (Novella)
Goldie Bloom has been sent by her boss -the one that broke her heart- to work in a seaside town in Australia. She also inherited a house near the sea and found out she had a familiar. She knew she is a witch but didn't know what kind of witch.
This is a fun novella and makes you want to keep reading the next books in the series.

Goldie and Persnickle

Goldie moves to seaside house she inherits and meets her new room mate. The first day there she falls over a murdered body. Can she find the murderer before she gets killed. What else is going on in this strange house. And why is coffee illegal? Really short story.

Loved This Story

A wombat for a familiar is most unusual. I loved it. This story is short but lays the groundwork very well. I want to know more about the town (coffee is illegal). Why? I want to know more about the nursing home residents. The witches at least. I want to know about the hunky cop too. So many questions, I had better get started.

Persnickle is my favorite character in this series!

I would have rated this higher, but even for a short story, events happened too quickly. I read the second book (the first full-length novel) first and plan to continue with the series.

This first book in the Sea Witch Cozy Mystery series is fun! It's a short novella that introduces you to Goldie Bloom, a thirty something, high flying real estate agent! She has recently moved to the shore in Australia after a breakup. I enjoyed the story. It was just a silly, quick read.

An enjoyable read as a young witch gets her introduction to the fact that she is a witch. There is a murder which is way too close. Definitely friendly encounters with the locals.

It's one of those pleasant summer reads.

Inviting novella

Avery nice taste of what is to come. This short introduction to Goldie, who is sassy, giving back as much as she gets, and the other characters is tempting. It creates the urge to make me want to know how these characters will be developed by the author.

I'm a what!?

Goldie Bloom is transferred to the Gold Coast at the same time she inherits her uncle Pete's estate. Strange things happen from the moment she arrives, not the least of which is learning that coffee is illegal in this town.

Description fail

Not really sure why cheating boyfriend was highlighted as one of Goldies main problems in the description since it really has barely anything to do with the book at all.
