For over 60 years the world-famous Superman has used his powers to fight for truth, justice and fair play against the forces of evil and chaos. For this book, DK has been permitted access to the archives of DC Comics, shapers of the Superman legend. Specially commissioned artworks reveal key locations, such as the Planet Krypton, as they have never been shown before. The secret workings of installations such as Superman's Fortress of Solitude are also displayed. Crucial events and characters are exclusively illustrated with drawings from the original comic books.
I read this when I was first becoming a Marvel fanboy and felt like I shouldn't be giving DC the time of day. What silly things 11 year old fanboys and their comic book loyalties are aren't they? Probably should give this another read now that I do like DC in addition to Marvel and now have a healthy appreciation for Superman.
Compared to many other "Guide to..." Super hero books, this ranks amongst the worst, I cannot fault the physical quality of the book as there are great high-resolution images from Superman Comics all the way from the humble beginnings of Action Comics #1 to the newly revamped New 52. This book recycles many elements from earlier books in the DC line but still gets you up to date to the many storylines/arcs that DC has released over the years, I think a greater effort could have been made to make this book more special and unique, it just seems like they have played it safe with this one.
This book is extremely helpful with superman. It shares his secrets, his power, the villains, and just about everything else. Scott Beatty is a great author for this book. He unleashes the fictional facts about this super hero, and he captures everything that was either good or bad in the way he his.
